dana 50 main cap torque?

dana 50 main cap torque?

well today i am installing new ball joints a powertrax locker and some new seals in my axle and in order to replace the inner oil seal next to the diff i have to remove the carrier and i would like to know what the torque spec is before i go taking it apart or if i have to use a dial indicator???

You should only need a dial indicator if you changed the carrier out and had to reshimmed, so that you can measure the backlash. If it's still the stock carrier with the same stock shims how they were you shouldn't need to check the backlash.
Bearing cap torque on the Dana 50 is 60ft/lbs.

The cap bolts on a d50 are 80 ft lbs
The ring gear bolts are 100 ft lbs and you need new one's per book.
The cover bolts are 35 ft lbs.

All from my 99 ford f350 factory CD.

well i found some site that said to torque the ring gear to 110 so that 10 extra ft lbs may compensate for not using new bolts.

thanks for the main cap info though but i got a whole new problem before i can put the carrier and caps back on, this deserves a new thread though...

Well speak up! By the way I used all old bolts. I didn't see the need. I used locktite on em.
