I want to open up my exhaust with true duel exhaust. Now my question what setup is better for a catback on the 5.4. Straight pipes or same with 40 seriese flowmasters. I want to set it up under the rear bumper. My main goal is to get a little more power without sacreificeing gas mileage. Any help or sugestions would be apreciated.
i guess duel exhaust is the way to go. The Y-pipe u have at first restricts the flow. Flowmasters will give you some power but most of all i like the sound it gives the truck. you'll feel the power with duel. Don't forget to put some nice chrome tips at the end of the pipes, looks good!
I got true dual exhuast on my buck 50. I had the Y-pipe cut off and custom 2" pipe on, with no mufflers. It sounds great and I can feel the extra HP. It only cost me $200 plus $60 for the crome tips. Check my profile for my tips.

well I live in wisconsin and in the winter is it cold and I get around 13 mpg on a heavy foot. In the summer if I ***** foot it I get about 16 mpg. But Im always on the gas because it sounds awesome
On ebay the have a 3" single outlet exhaust that I have been eyeing up for a while. It seems like a good deal, $237.00 including shipping and it uses a MAC flowpath muffler. From experience I prefer the sound of MAC over flowmaster...
You will ultimately get more power and more flow with no mufflers. Even though flowmasters are awesome for sound and flow...you obviously get more flow with no mufflers. I have true dual exhaust, with cats, no mufflers on my 02 FX4 5.4L...2.5in with 3in tips. Sounds great and the power band definately expanded, mileage increased alittle but no "major" change. I also have a MAC CAI, this will help you as well.

Yup chrome tips look good but are a PITA to keep clean and don't look that great when dirty. Mine are always dirty and when dirty you can no longer tell they are chrome. I love how they look when clean though and would definately go with chrome tips. Well I have them now if I do it again I would go for them then too. I personally think the tips should be cut at an angle also but thats just my opinion.
I just got a 40 series dumped under the bed on my 5.4 and it sounds great. I have also gained about 1 mpg. I cant really tell anything different in power. Cost me about 118.
Has anyone ever heard the MAC flowpath mufflers? I have a setup on my 3.8L V6 mustang and it kicks the heck out of the flowmasters that were suggested to me. Take a listen to this audio file. It does the MAC Performance name justice, and remember this is only on a V6...
I had the mufflers cut out but but failed to remove the Y, so I don't really have true duals. It still sounds AWESOME though. Anyone have suggestions on a whole new exhaust system? I'm talking new headers and new plumbing all the way to the tips.
Everybody is talking abotu CHROME tips. I would never buy chrome tips. The only tips that I buy are stainless steel tips. Chrome tips will rust out after a while and stainless steel tips look the same.
