Lowest Gasoline price EVER seen. . . .

What is the lowest gasoline price that YOU have ever seen?

Me - 1-9/10ths cents. (0.019¢) Greeneville, Tennessee - January 1972
Driving home with my parents from my grand-mother's funeral. We had just filled up at an ESSO station, where my Dad used to buy gas when we lived there. (He knew the owner.) Loyalty, I guess.
As we drove through town, the gas prices just kept getting lower and lower.
Dad had just paid 14-9/10th cents (0.149¢).

The last gas station in town was a Sinclair. 1-9/10ths cents!!!!

Dad says, "Just my dad-gum luck. I fill up, then drive straight through a gas war!!!"

I used to work at a Shell Station near Andrews Air Force Base (1971-72.)
Regular - 26-9/10ths.
Super Shell - 32-9/10ths

Man. . . . I MISS those days!!!!

The lowest I ever payed for gas was 1.00 a gallon before I can drive. I wish it was still at that price I probably could fill up my truck for 18 bucks.

I remember, even in recent times, localized gas pricing wars. You'd see someone break below 80 cents, next thing you know someone is below 70 cents. I remember a few Exxon stations selling 87, 89 and 93 octane all within 2 cents of each other. On occasion, the 93 would be cheaper than the 89. And like I said, this wasn't a whole long time ago.

Around 1960 my parents took me out in PA somewhere, and I remember my father saying there was a gas war there. It was around 0.189. But that wasn't super cheap. At that time gas was probably around 0.299. Compared to now it was like giving it away. I just paid 2.15 for diesel.

Just the other day I filled my Tank for $7.00, paid 19.9/10 gal. The attendant input the wrong price into the computer that morning instead of $1.99 9/10 they sold gas for most of the day at that price. The girl behind the counter could not understand why they were so busy.

The days of gas wars are over. The margins on gas used to be much higher, therefore a retailer could shave off 10 cents from the competitors price or even more, but now, retailers are only making between 5-10 cents on 87 octane. But premium . . . . that's a different story.
