Check engine light

Help
My ford F150 with a 4.9 6cyl is giving me a check engine light. I checked the code and it was 118. Everything I can find tells me that is a Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (ETC). I replaced the sensor and cleared the computer but the engine light keeps coming on, same code. The light goes on and off every few minutes while driving. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Check engine light

What year is your truck? On some earlier models, the idiot light was pre-programmed to come on after a certain mileage was reached, just to remind you to take it in for service. Check the archives, there are posts on this there. There's also a post today on the check engine light...read that and give it a try.

Check engine light

He retrieved the code, the computer is telling him whats wrong, he's doing everything right. The next thing to check would be the wiring from the sensor to the ECU. Check the connectors and see if the pins are pushed back in the plug or for damaged insulation on the wires.

Check engine light

Hi
Thanks for the info. I will check for bad connections. The truck is a 1993 4.9. Also, I hate to say it, I can not find the engine temp sending unit! The manual shows it to be somewhere on the passenger side , mid engine. I can see all the injector wires and the sensor in the intake manifold which I assume is the air charge sensor. I can not see anything else that looks like it could a temp sensor. I thought that maybe it used the coolant sensor for the engine temp but when I disconnect it, the engine temp gage still works. I feel stupid asking, but where is my engine temp sensor?
