Yes it's possible. There are no kits, so it will be all you. I'm in the learning stage myself. There's lots of good turbo info on www.turbomustangs.com and www.turbofords.com . I would recommend that you get 2 books, too, Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, and Turbochargers by Hugh McInnes. A guy that goes by bigblockcapri turbo'd a stock motor (I think he had larger injectors and a chip to help with the AF ratio) and made 278 rwhp and 410 lb/ft. I think the biggest hurdle is the computer. Speed density isn't going to cut it, so a mass-air upgrade is practically mandatory. A stock maf still won't do it, though. It's possible to hack a 5.0 computer and make it run the 4.9, but you lose tranny control. I'd rather not have to buy a standalone controller.

I personally would go with a stand alone system. it is much easier to tune, and you don't get all the trouble of "hacking" the stock ECU. one other benifit to a stand alone system is progressive build capability. you can start small (stock injectors, mass air flow [MAF] sensor, O2 sensors and what not)and tune to low boost. then as you build up, you can re-tune to compensate for larger injectors, larger throttle body, larger maf sensor, etc......
you could get away with using the stock setup with a turbo, though you could only run about 5-6 Lb of boost MAX which will only give you about ~70 HP over stock, but that is a start, and you can still drive it daily while you amass parts for the upgrades.
do your research and don't short cut or it'll bite you in the butt. you will need to lower your compression ratio, get forged rods/pistons, adequate head gasket, hotter plugs, better fuel delivery.....the list is endless...... to make BIG power.
I have a friend who built a 100 HP nissan 4 cylinder on stock internals to hold 342hp/373Lbft Tq. at 13lb of boost. so I am sure if you only plan on running 6 lb boost, you won't need to "build" your bottom end right away.
I wanna see a twin turbo I-6 ford truck!!!! wow, tha'd be sweet.
