New calibration - fixes high idle @ startup & MPG
I took my 05 Lariat Supercrew into the dealer for a radio swap (Visteon non mp3 capable to the Delphi</ST1lace> mp3 capable). I also asked if they had the latest calibration on the PCM (engine controller) as the Motorcraft website showed that the cal sticker was not the latest. They said they do not load the latest until there is a complaint from the customer. Sounds like BS to me, but then I made my complaint.

Poor gas mileage. I was getting an average of 13 MPG (using the message center only). I then asked if there have been other complaints. He mentioned that there's a fix for an intermittent high idle at start up. I had that problem. It would go up to 2000 RPM during start-up and maintain it for a while. They "loaded a new calibration" and that fixed the high idle, and also on the drive home the message center showed 18 MPG on the highway and I'm seeing 16-17 MPG city/average now. Seems a little more doggy, but at $2.05/gallon, I'll take the economy. I plan to check MPG the old fashion way too.<O></O>

I suggest if you have these problem(s), to contact your dealer. I thought 2000 was high, but didn't think much of it. I'm glad he mentioned it.

I'm wondering what years this covers (04-05) and engines. Seems like my V6 in my 05 revs way up and then slowly comes back down at a cold start. I don't like that it revs way up when the oil is still starting to make its rounds for the first time of the day in the motor. Just dosn't seem right to me.

Thanks for the information. I also have an 05 Lariat Screw. Same issue, notice high rpm on starting cold/hot. Only 1900 miles but still...Mileage was down to 8.9 via message center for city driving. Hgwy 15.3. I'm an old fart and with the price of gas $2.18@gal I no longer need jack rabbit starts. I dropped the truck off this morning at the dealer. Hope they fix the problem.

How can you tell?
I see you guys are getting your PCM upgraded. How acn you tell what version you have? I heard there is a sticker under the hood, but where?
Also, aAfter the Dealership upgrades your PCM did they give you a service slip stating what version they upgraded to? If so can you post that information please.
Thanks

I got my truck back. The dealer said they couldn't see a problem, and that I have the latest PCM SW. But keep an eye on it. Funny thing, I took it for a hwy drive, set cruise control and noticed the message center indicate 19.7 @ 55 mph and 20.6 at 66 mph. First time I have seen these #'s. So I don't know what to make of it. But will keep an eye on it and report later. It it stays this way I will be happy. Putting on a K&N FIPK - 57-2556 this weekend.
