Lightbulb Stock Engine Sounds

Every time I drive or even ride in a HEMI, I get chills. The motor just sounds almost too good. Ford and Chevy I have to say have no where near the "sound" of the big V8 as the HEMI does.

Magnum engines have always had a distinct sound to them. Especially the old 5.9 360. I can always tell wheather its a Dodge or other driving by by the sound of the engine. The odd time its and aftermarket exhaust on a Chev or Ford that makes it sound like the Magnums.

Best as always.

I know these cars aren't relevant to this site, BUT America is slowly loosing the V8 sound as "its" trademark

Ever heard a 4.2l Maserati at WOT pulling 7000rpm in 2nd??? I could die listening to that sound
How bout a SL55 Merc, or a RS6 Audi??? Both are fantastic, quiet, but menacing.

The HEMI does sound pretty good, I admit, but I think the Mustang GT sounds a little better.
I also think the old 4V 4.6 fitted to the Cobra sounded pretty awesome.

"Our" 4V 5.4's we get here sound pretty good, but not quite as good as a Mustang GT (our cars only rev to 6k).
Even so, my car is straight piped (with Cats) and with WOT it sounds like it is about to rip you in half, the combination of induction howl, superchager whine, and exhaust rumble is just electric

Nothing beats a V8 pulling hard near the redline IMO.

I don't think anything in the world sounds better than a small block Ford through straight pipes...I don't have an opinion on stock sounds...I don't like `em, any of `em...Way too quiet for my tastes...My neighbors hate me...lol...

lol @ fordlariat. a corvette with that new 7.0 i bet sounds good. i too am a fan of the V8 sound at redline. I could also die listening and diesel (not the quite ones) at idel. just the la la la. man i slept in a sleeper cab in a volvo semi once. it was a hot day and i went in there for a nap. after an hour man i thought i had slept 12.

The Cobra R has the best sounding engine out there, period. I heard one on the dyno at Apex Motorsports in San Jose. Good God that thing would've made any gearhead drool.

Nothing IMO beats the sound of a 60s-70s American V8.

Best as always.
