Looking for a VIN decoder
Hey all. I am a new member to the Forum, although I have reviewed the posts for a while.
I am looking for a VIN decoder. I have a 1955 F-100 that has a 6-cylinder with a hole in the side. I would like to restore this to near stock and would like all the info I can find.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome brother stocker!!! We've almost been overrun by the dark side (resto-rodders) for some time now. Glad to have new blood in our neverending battle against the modification of these old girls.
Seriously, this forum claims as it's members some of the best folks you'll ever want to meet, and some are very knowledgeable people. Most are somewhat ... hmmm ... odd, touched, one lug nut short, in their own way. Almost all of us have a great sense of humor.
OK, I'll brag first. If you're going to try for a stock redo, visit Earl's World to find out what kind of torture you're in for if you haven't done this before.
As far as a magic VIN decoder ring goes, there are a few on the web but some have either errors, omissions, or both. The one on Earl's World in the Reference Material Section is taken directly from the parts books. It may still have some errors and/or omissions, but at least they were made in 1957 by Ford when the catalog was printed, and not by your cousin's second wife's brother when he copied it off the back of a matchbook he found on a bar floor with the peanut shells.
The shameless promotion of my web site is not officially ended. Back to the thread subject ...

ralf,
If you wouldn't mind, I've got to VIN's - they're potential purchases, that I'd be interested in knowing what the original equipment was. This way I can determine if the vehicles have any modifications.
1) 1977 F150 vin: F14HNY12479
2) 1976 Bronco vin: U15GLC57712
Thanks, in advance for your help!

Here is my VIN: F10D5R30066 I really appreciate your help on this.
My truck has 4 different trucks making it one. The frame is the only VIN I would call real. THe truck is buried in a corner of my garage, so I am really unable to look for anymore numbers at this time.
I am just waiting for warmer weather.....

grey77 - your 1997 F-150 VIN does not compute. It should be 17 numbers/letters.
Your 1976 Bronco VIN U15GLC57712 decodes:
U15 = Bronco
G = 302 engine
L = Mich. Truck Assembly Plant. According to the book the next 6 digits should be sequential production number but I'm not sure about the "C", could be a 6 or maybe that's the way they numbered them.
