Question Power Steering bracket mod for 460 implant

Does anyone have any ideas to adapt my stock ram assist power steering pump bracket to my newly implanted 460. The bracketry in the truck was for a 360 FE engine. I put the 460 in a 74 F250 4x4 and am ready to spend 140 dollars for an adapter through L&L. If there is a cheaper and better way, please let me know. Thanks in advance, Tim

i dont know anything about power ram assist pumps or what they even look like, but if its the same as the bracket on regular power steering here is what i did when i swapped a 360 for my 460, the 460 didnt come with a PS bracket, so i bolted the bracket from the 360 onto the water pump, then i heated the middle of the bracket with a torch, when i glowed red i used a prybar and twisted it a little at a time, put the PS pump on to check the belt alignment, eventually it lined up and i put the belt on.....only problem with this is the bracket only lined up with the holes on the water pump, not the head mounts, so my PS pump vibrates slightly but i havent had a problem with it since i did it 4 years ago, i even bought a 460 PS bracket from a salvage yard, tried to put it on but it didnt line up right, so i put the 360 bracket back on.....but like i said i have no idea what ram assist looks like so this post might be completely meaningless to you...........good luck.......

If the pump is the same dimensions as a regular power steering pump, get the PS bracket from a 460 truck with PS.
You might be able to use the brackets from a car 460, but you won't be able to mix and match the brackets between the truck and the car setups.
Also, make sure you get the brackets from the same year "family" your 460 is. When researching this subject about 460 A/C brackets, I learned they changed along the way, but I don't know when. The bracket changes may parallel the change to external balance ('79 or so) and introduction of EFI - but I don't know for sure.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah the ram assist power steering is simply the stock power steering for the pre 77 F250 4x4's. I haven't done the conversion to the later stuff yet. I'll take a look at bending the bracket before buying the adapter. I went looking for a 460 with power steering but had trouble finding a match for my pump. I think I would need to buy the pump along with the stock 460 bracketry??? Not sure, unless there is a certain year or model that would work with my truck pump. Can you use a car power steering pump and bracket on a 4x4 F250? Don't know if it would hold up to extreme use and abuse of a truck.

yes, all i did was take the pump and brackets off a wrecked truck that had a 460 in it. But L and L products makes engine swap kit or you can buy single brackets. But u can buy an new 460 oil pump at checker auto parts cheaper than u can buy the new bracket. I just dropped a 460 into my 79 f-150, thew only problem i am having is finding headers

I put a 460 in my 79 crewcab 4x4. What i used was a power steering bracket from a 75 or 76 Ford van with a 460. It looks stock and absolutely no bending required. This bracket keeps the pump away from the steering gear of the f250 or f350.

The pump itself is the ham can looking thing. I think it starts with an S.

Anyway all fits and looks and works as advertised.
