i recently bought a '96 f-250 and when i try to fill up my front gas tank it overflows and shoots the gas out of the fuel door, so if any body has any ideas please let me know

 

as you will find in this forum, fuel problems with the duel tank setup are a common thing. ford has issued a recall because the front tank filling the back tank and visa versa is a common problem that they have corrected by installing in-line check valves at the tank sender. so you may be having the same problem and your front tank is already full from fuel from the rear tank. good luck

the filler neck could be kinked or blocked by somthing. slide up under there and take a look at the filler pipe. the big one that you can see isnt wat the gas travels through, theres a smaller pipe inside. make sure that it isnt bent real sharp and squeeze it up and down to make sure there isnt something blocking it. otherwise, i would check the vent coming out of the tank and see if its cloged because if it is then it wont vent and will pressurize and shoot back out. hope this helps.

i checked the inner hose on my 96 f-250 and it was split it half, i repaired it with chemical tape, but ford said that they dont cary the inner tube i have to replace the whole assembly but thanks for the advice

 

I have the same problem on 92 F150, I can't fill any gas in the front tank. it's emply but just overflows and shoots the gas out. where is inner tube located?

 

The inner hose is smaller than the fill hose and is located inside the fill hose.

 

what's easiest way to get to inner hose? fuel door disassembly? disconnect filler neck from tank? or maybe both? Thanks,
