A good place to start is to read this article. Then ask away, I believe you will find the 9" Ford the one you will like.

Thanks, Little more info please!
I'm now looking for a 57-72 F100 9" rear end. From the thread I read it will bolt in prefectly and will keep the truck bolt pattern I want to keep. My (hopefully last) question on this matter is: Will the drums as they are work or will I need to fabricate different ones to keep my rear tires tracking with the original front end?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Rod, yes. The 9" is approx 1 1/4" shorter measured from the axle centerline than the Dana/Spicer stock rear end. I went to a local machine shop that specializes in drivelines. Bought a longer (1" or 1 1/2") splined yoke for the front of the driveshaft. They had it sitting on the shelf already made up. Doesn't get any easier - think it cost me 40 or 50 bucks, but came complete with seal and grease fittings.
