Side curtain airbags, what year(s)

Anyone, What year did side curtain air bags become available? Also, is there any issue with headroom difference with this option as compared to an Escape without? Is there an easy way to tell if an Escape has this option? Thanks, John (Looking at used Escapes for our next vehicle)

Air bag in the seat? I'm confused.... Aren't they in the pillars and along the top edge of the door frame? John

Nope, they come out of the side of the seatback. A problem if you want seat covers.

2005 Mariner...

On my vehicle I have the "side-curtain" airbags in the outer seat cushion's of both front seats. I also have the "canopy" system which deploys airbags from above. If you count the front airbags, I have a total of six airbags on the vehicle. Hope that helps?

Thanks.
