Talking 2005 5.4 3V Whipple Supercharger

I saw today that proficent performance is offering a Whipple Supercharger and and also a couple of others. The Whipple give the engine 475HP off of 8 psi boost. Can you say Hemi Killer. Only thing, its cost was $5300. but not bad for 175 HP increase just doing a bolt on.

I really like this setup but wonder how the motor will handle the increased stress. Most purpose-built supercharged engines (Cobra, Ford GT, etc.) designed for use as a daily driver (as opposed to occasional use or for drag racing) have a built lower half with extra stout connecting rods and a forged steel crank. I suppose as long as the boost is kept at 8 lbs., it probably won't be a problem.

I "suppose" too, but that is why I don't want to be the first to learn. Rousch has one out with 6 pounds of boost and 400 plus horse available with the factory warranty. No engine mods required under than the ECM reflash/program that comes with, and recommended exhaust upgrade. whipple of course made the Lightening version, but I am not sure whether the Whippple will void the factory warranty, as i have not seen anything on that yet. I think teh biggest issue may be transmission, although I'm no gear head. For older F 150s they make a HD upgrade that makes it in essence a superduty tranny. I imagine they will have one out for teh latest generation soon.

I did not know that the SD had a five speed. I wonder how that tranny would hook up/fit with everything in the F 150?

According to a friend of mine (who is a gear head mechanic and drag race runner) if you stay under 13lbs on todays vehicles, the engine handle it fine. Who will be the first to put one on??

That little dude jumping around reminds me of the donkey in Shrek: "Pick me, pick me." I'll tell you what. (What?). Why don't the members of the forum chip in some money and deposit it with my local Ford delaer as soon as the Whipple is ready for action, in trust for use by me to donate my rig for installation of the Whipple (throw in headers and exhaust whiel we're at it). The site members pays for my install, and I'll give a full report, with updates and long term evaluation. Sounds fair to me.

All the superduties have the torqshift now which is a 5speed. Only problem would be length of the tranny compared to the 4speed we got stuck with. Someone go to the dealership and measure.

How can the tranny handle that much additional power? Do you plan any changes to your transmission?
