'05 F150 Vehicle Speed Sensor

Hey folks: I'm losing my mind trying to find the VSS lead for my GPS (so my wife won't make me stop and ask for directions - you know what I mean). It's too new for the wiring specs to be out. Anybody found it? Thank you.

Older trucks have the VSS on top of the rear diff. I'm sure things haven't changed too much.

Thanks, but no go. I believe the wiring harness is on the fire wall passenger side, but I cannot identify the correct wire.

Looking at the 2004 F150 WDM

The rear axle speed sensor goes straight in to the ABS control module (located in eng comp, left side fender below air snorkle), via a twisted pair wire. One is Light Green w/ Black stripe and the other is Light Green w/ Red stripe. They hook into terminals 22 and 23 of ABS plug C135. From there it goes to the PCM and, via splices, to the insturment cluster. The output from the ABS module is another twisted pair; one wire is White w/ Light Green stripe (CAN Bus +) and the other is Pink w/ Light Green stripe(CAN Bus -).

The PCM is located on the r/h upper firewall. The wires (W/LG and P/LG) are on terminals 2 and 3 of PCM connector C175b.

Hope this helps!!

I fit is a mounted GPS(AKA Navigation) my guess would be to plot the landspeed of the truck in relation to the sattelites. I really dont know much about GPS, guess thats why I keep getting lost, huh?

Donsfx4: Thank you. That was a very complete answer, and think it is exactly what I need. I'll take a look and drop you a note. more

Lashlaroo and Johnnyboy:

I can not figure out why it needs a speed sensor. I thought the position of the sats relative to the movement was enough to calculate the speed. You know, it's a math thing! Now, there is a plausable reason for not knowing what the heck is going on.

Actually, I believe that the monitor uses the sensor to reset its calculation automatically and more accurately read out the speed and estimate distances. Not sure though, but I think that is what Johnnyboy was stating.

Thank you folks.
