engine cleaning

i just put a brand new 360 crate into my truck but the air cleaner cover I got is open the the air cleaner is visible. The problem is after put the new engine in is the engine compartment is dirty greasy and what not . Any recommendation on how to clean it should I just put a trash bag over the aircleaner because I don't want to get it or my new carb wet. Thanks

Yep. Just cover the aircleaner, carb and distributer with a plastic bag. I like to spray it down with a degreaser, then let it soak and use a power washer (heated if possible) and it will come nice and clean. Before I got myself a power washer, I used to do this type of thing at the local self serve car wash.

What happens if you don't cover the distributor and air cleaner with a bag before you spray degreaser? I've done it twice and I haven't noticed anything, but no matter if my engine is only running for 3 minutes, to get from my house to the local self-serve everything sizzles when i spray the degreaser, and it comes out at such a low pressure that nothing comes clean. Any suggestions?

You can get moisture or condensation in the cap and it will make it hard to start. Usually you just have to wipe it out, but sometimes thats not enough.
