Larger fuel tank (Supertank)

Larger fuel tank (Supertank)
Has anyone tried to change out the existing fuel tank with a larger one? A friend is looking at www.supertanks.com for a replacement on his '02 7.3L long bed. Per their web page they can replace the factory 38gal with a 60gal tank. When we were talking I liked the idea and they have a 60gal tank to replace the 29gal in the short bed as well.
With the way diesel prices are going I was thinking it would be nice to fill up at a cheap station when you find one. Plus, those long distance trips it would be nice to go about a 1000 miles between fillups.

My fuel sender was being replaced under warranty, so I simply had the Ford dealer put the new tank back after taking the original tank out, and charge me for the extra prep labor. The instructions looked pretty straightforward. I don't know about the SuperTank, but the TransferFlow tank is a beast! Very well made. I really don't know how you'd get 60 gallons under there without moving something or having the tank hang down a lot lower. The 46 gallon tank reaches into every nook and cranny of available space under there.

Ahh, good timing then.
I was looking around last night, forget the name/link, but I did also see a 55gal tank for the short bed. So far it seems there is a 46, 55, and 60gal option. I did like the pics on the Transfer Flow site showing how far down the new tank sits. On their web page it looks like the new tank sits about 3-4" below the frame. That sound about right for your tank?

This one looks very appealing. It is from Elite Products and is called Titan Tanks.

The factory 38 gal tank will not fit in the shortbed (or I suspect Ford would put it there!)
The transferflow tank does hang down below the frame rail, but I don't think it's any farther than my skid plate used to hang down. You can't have the skid plate with the transferflow tank, but trust me, that beast of a steel tank is tougher than the skid plate was!!! (Speaking of which, anyone want to buy a slightly used 29 gallon tank and skid plate cheap, in the Chicago area...)
About the weight... you know, the first time I filled the new tank I could actually feel a really slight difference in how the truck pulled, i.e. it was having to work a little harder like it does when you're hauling something in the bed. (It balances out though, against how much lighter your wallet is after pumping that many gallons in, ouch!!) But the side to side weight distribution isn't something I've noticed any effect from.
