ramsey industrial tow truck winch

my uncle who has a junk yard just called me he has got a chevy wrecker with a ramsey worm gear electric winch. The tag says it is a 10000lb Are the industrial ones any better and how much should i spend on it because it needs a new cable.

I would jump on it if you can get it for a couple hundred at the most.

It's been awhile since I've run electric winches on my wreckers, but the ones we ran were Ramsey industrials they were tough. But I've no experience with nonindustrial winches to make a comparison to.

My wrecker now has twin 16000# hydraulic Ramseys and my rollback has an 8000# hydraulic Ramsey. If you want tough go hydraulic they dont quit pulling, something will move or something will break. I've never had one stop and they easy to repair.

get that! the Ramsey Industrial series hydro winches are 20x better than their cheapo knock off self recovery winches. the problem you will find is that it is not gonna be easy to mount. they are built with the idea that they are gonna have a lot of room to mount on. i found one of those on a wrecked wrecker (bit of irony) around here and took some measuremenst and decided against it b/c i would have to build a bumper that would push the winch out a good bit so it wouldn't hit my radiator. but if you can fab something up i would sure as hell go for it.

BTW... see if you can't get all the hydro lines and the pump and all.... it would make your life so much esaier
