break-in period

How long is the break in period on the 5.4L motors along with the rpm and such not to go over? Also, on the FX4 or any 4x4 for that matter, does the suspension need a break-in as well?

I only ask these because this is my first time owning a Ford truck and a 4x4.

What kind of oil are you running? Synthetic or conventional? I'd say 1k to 2k on conv. I don't know if the new motors are still prone to it, but we rebuilt a 318 in a '60 Fury, and ran synth in it and had to rehone the cyls....

Breakin is 1,000 miles (although I did mine for 3,000+ miles). It mostly involves varying youR speed. So if you take a long trip avoid using cruise control for extended periods. I used no cruise for the first 3,000 miles and even after that eased into using it. Have fun!!!!

I only have 250 miles on the truck. I got it a few days ago. So I have the oil that Ford put in it. What do they normally put in it and what will they change it with if I have the oil done at the dealership?

So, by "blend" you mean not full synthetic, right?

Yes. Works great except I switched to Valvaline 5w-20 Durablend.

So Ford uses a slightly synthetic blend oil and still recomends it be changed at 5000 mile intervals? I am wondering if this is good because I get free oil changes through Ford at all scheduled times for free along with tire rotations and washes at anytime.

The oil issue is a concern, can you guys fill me in more on this?

My friend, you seem to be needlessly worried. Don't sweat the small $#!+. Just change fluids and do the recommended service checks and you'll be one happy camper!!!

I am not real worried about it but I was just thinking about getting the oil done at 1000 or 1500 and then doing on the normal 5000 mile increments starting at 5000. I think I would like them to run full synthetic, that is what I am questioning it. Full synthetic will help her run longer and I am all about that because the truck is AWESOME!

I guess I am also a little new to this again because, this is my FIRST truck ownership and FIRST new vehicle I have ever purchased. So I just want to do it right from the get go and not have to worry about anything for a long time.
