I too am looking at putting dual exhaust on my truck. Not really doing it for the power as much as I am doing it for the looks and the sound.

Best way I found of getting the sound and look you want is to just drive around with your windows down, everytime you see a similar truck with a setup you like you follow them for a few blocks and try to pull up next to them. Ask them to pull over so you can check out their exhaust, I have done it plenty of times. I'm getting ready to start doing it again for my new truck. Just look under the truck and record the muffler brand and any identification numbers on it. and a few notes on how it is set up. I have never come across someone that doesn't want to talk about their truck. Its also good to have an idea of how your exhaust is set up. . . .single/double cats or single in to dual out pipes, whatever

Looking in the 05 F150 booklet they show, what appears to be, 2 CAT's - one inline for each of the 4-bank manafold exhausts, of course coming together into one outlet pipe flowing into one muffler & one outlet.
So, if the CAT's are that far upstream, before the "Y" then why shouldn't it be relatively easy to install dual, IF there's room for an extra pipe run & muffler.

I had the same concerns until I went to a local muffler shop. We put the truck, 2004 F150 Scab 4x4 4.6L, on the rack. It had 3 cats. Two close the manifolds before the Y, one after the Y before the Muffler. They cut the Y gave me true duals the rest of the way back with glass packs. I stayed with factory sized pipe due to the smaller motor, but it sounds awesome. As others have posted, I have been stopped by several other truck owners to see how my exhaust was done. Not much to mention on power gains or gas mileage gains, its hard to keep your foot off the gas. Good luck

If those aren't two cats under my 04 5.4 I don't know what they are. What else would they be.If those aren't cats then were is the one. No, I beleive it has two and if so why would want dual in single out.

As always I'm not a mechanic but....
About 3 weeks ago I got to hear a Gibson exhaust on a 318 '04 Dodge and loved the muscle sound of it, and that all I wanted to new exhaust for anyway. However living in the lower Keys, certain parts are hard to come by. So for $300 I got a catback system, Flowmaster exhaust SI/DO. I was lucky and got it all custom fit and welded, no clamps. Anyway funny thing is, I got the same sound as I had wanted with the Gibson exhaut. On top of that, I did notice a slight perfomance increase.

No regrets with the changes I made so for

I had the local muffler shop install the true dual exhaust setup. I have the 5.4 and it has 2 cats on it. To keep it under warranty we cut the pipe right behind the cats and then ran two seperate pipes into the stock muffler location. We then stacked two flowmaster 40 series side by side then I ran them striaght out of the back of the truck into some chrome rolled tips. Looks sweet, had it insatalled at 3,000 miles truck now has 11,000 miles and now problems. The mufflers were loud all the time at first, but they have mellowed out quite a bit. They still have a good tone, and they sound great when your on the pedal. They are almost are silent when driving at interstate speeds. Cost me $460.00 with muffler shop providing everything. Had lots of good comments on them.
