Pimp Daddy Wheels...
Those big 20-22-24" wheels and the tires that fit them?? Are they any good off road? I mean even for sand/beach running can you air them down to float on the sand?? Of course they are useless in mud, but do you guy's rock climb with them?? There's allot of money being spent on these pages for street rims and tires under trucks. I was wondering if they are any good for anything else than cruising the strip at night??

I think the only advantage to the big rims is in the cornering because of the smaller sidewalls. The looks is probably the biggest reason for putting them on. As far as off road, the tread would determine their traction like any tire. But I wouldn't want all that pretty rim being banged up against any rocks. Best suited for the street ride.

Normally with the bigger rims, you get much reduced sidewall heights. This transfers much more road noise into the suspension, and in turn, into your ride. You might be able to sneak on some sand with them, but I wouldnt suspect much. See above comment on overall sidewall dimensions. You need that extra height to deflate and give you a nice big contact patch.

I have 24's on my 04 supercrew with a DJM 2.5-5 lowering kit.You get some seriuos bump steer especially in corners.Sometimes the truck will move a lane on its own but you get over it and learn to anticipate the bumps.I've taken mine to the dunes but I dont recommend it.Tires are $600.00 each!

With all of that being said,
There is a trend now of alot of rock buggies using 20's with 37 or 40" tires. There are an amazing amount of people running 20" at Glamis Dunes in California. Is all has to do with side wall size. For me if I was going to put my F150 on the trail like I have other vehicles, and I wanted to run 20" I would put a minimum of a 37" tire. Now not saying you couldn't do so with 35's but you would be in a better position with 37's.
As someone said though tread is where its at. I have put a vehicle in places people thought impossible with a set of A/T's before. But the A/T's (Bridgestone Revo's) would clean out real good and had a good deflate pattern. I have also run 9" wide TSL Super Swamper at 10 psi and stuck like glue to everything. Again, people said it was too skinny of a tire but the tread is agressive enough on the biased tires to get you pretty much anywhere.
Just some first hand experience for you.

I have 24x10s on my TWO WHEEL DRIVE Lariat Screw and I don't even like to drive it down a dirt road. You would have to be on crack to take $5K set of wheels and tires rock crawling or even trail riding. My truck is built to look good ON ROAD and it does that very well.
I have a set of 15x10s on my FOUR WHEEL DRIVE 2003 Jeep Sahara...along with 31x10.5 BFGs, a 2in Pro-Comp lift (not those cheesy spacers...a real lift kit), a complete Warn Body Armor skid plate kit and a few other goodies. I can go anywhere I would ever WANT TO GO with it and many places most F150s can't.
With that said you need to match your tire and wheel pacakge to what you intend to do with your truck. As for grouping 20s, 22s and 24s together...there really is no comparison. A 24in rim is so much bigger than a 20 its unreal. There are some decent offroad tires for 20s and even 22s but anything bigger than that needs to stay on the pavement.
J-Unit the bump steer you have has got to be associated with the suspension mods you have done. I have 24x10 ACK Aries rims with 305/35 Kumhos and virtualy no bump steer at all. The only way I feel any is if I hit railroad tracks going 45mph and even then its very mild. You really need to look into it because thats not normal. I would really like to see pics of your truck though...I have never seen 24s on a dropped F150. Hell mine scrub at full lock up front now at stock height.
