Red face Lesson Learned

Well, a guy at work was out playing in his 2002 cherokee this past saturday, and got it buried to the frame in the good old South Carolina mud. After several hours, he could not get it unstuck, so he left it and started home. Well, it rained all day sunday up until Monday morning. Since I just bought a 2000 F150 4wd, and been itching to try it out, he asked me for help. We got to the site this afternoon, and sure enough, he was buriedup past his diffs. After looking at the best approach, I decied to try to drive the 1/4 through the fresh, slick mud to go get him. I got in about 200 feet and lost all traction. I should have known better. The truck is all factory with no mods, and has regular all-terrain tires. After some rocking, and getting into the throttle, I just couldn't manage to get on hard enough ground to get some traction. All the while, this guy came along with a late 80's model chebbie a with 44" swamppers sitting on about 16" of lift. He offered to pull me out, but being the proud Ford owner I am, I refused to give up. Well, I should have. After about 2 hours, I was buried even worse than the guy I went to pull out!! Well, I broke down, and hooked up to the chebbie. He pulled me out with no problems, and yes I was a bit embarssed. Well, I got to talking to the guy, and guess what.. under the hood of that chevy is 460!! Well, needless to say, I did feel alot better knowing that the guts behind the truck is a Ford!

So lesson learned...don't play in the mud unless your truck is wearing the right shoes, and sometimes you may have to humble yourself and ask for some help....

And cranes...easy to transport, easy to lift out...

I actually tried using my AR15 to get out once...didnt work. The highly compressed gases behind the bullet cause an explosion after the bullet passes through a material (hence why peoples heads often, but not always, explode - yes they really do, not just a movie trick). I was trying to remove mud from behind and around the tire of my truck. I was also praying for a flat...I hate my BFG's...just waitin on XL's

After a good couple of minutes of self extraction, never be to proud to get a pull. I have been hauled out by Toyotas, Cherokees, and wouldn't refuse an ATV if that is all I had. I have also pulled out Jeeps, and they didn't complain, especially after seeing the B2 claw up the same stuff they can. Hey what happened to your friend in the Cherokee?
