1966 Crew Cab (rarity, prices)
Alright. I'm a HUGE fan of the 1966 or around that era crew cabs. I am interested in getting one for restoring or one thats in not the best condition just so i can do some fixing up and so I can afford it a little more. Can anyone tell me how rare these are...I hear they're very rare and I can't even find any online for sale. Though there is a guy about 30-45 mins from me that I heard has 3 Crew Cabs and wants to sell one. Anyway, does anyone have any idea what these go for as far as unrestored to the restored. I know this could be a huge range but I'd like to know what I'm getting into or how much more money I'd need to save. Any info would be great!! Thanks in advance.

THere are more of these out there than you think. Most were owned by construction outfits or the military. The Air Force had alot of these. I lived in Bangor, Me. and there were a bunch at Dow AFB. in the early 60's. I remember seeing these odd looking trucks as a kid. It's hard to give a price on what a trucks worth without a good description of condition. Post more details if you can.

THat's sounds like me. Alway the deals come thru when I'm broke! It really depends on condition and what you can spend. A ratty truck could be a few hundred, or a good truck could be a few grand. Try to get a starting price from the owner. Then you can bargain with him. Don't let him have you set the starting price.

In regards to rarity. I would say that they are rare but not so rare as not to be able to find one. There was a guy in NC a few months ago practially giving 2 f-350s away..The Key is that when and if you find one cash talks and dont hesitate as someone else is looking for one too and usually has more cash.
I was not even looking for a crew when my son discovered it just sitting on a trailer waiting for me to buy it. Luckly i had a lot of cash that day burning a hole in my pocket and it fit the bill for what i would call a full custom build.
I purchased it as just a cab, however it was 100% complete in that all the pieces required were there. And this gave me the basis for the Super Crew Uni build. I basically replaced the entire lower sections of the cowl, firewall kick panels, cab mounts and cab corners. I even had to rebuild the intermedite post.
Prices vary i have seen total rust buckets that looked like Godzilla had kicked it half way accross toyko go for over a thousand and really nice examples go for over five thousand.
It is a matter of luck, and having the funds to get it when it becomes avalible.

Like everone else said they are rare, but you just have to keep looking and you will find one. There were about a dozen for sale over the internet last year on this site and others. I bought mine in NY off the same guy Ron got his. He got the nicer one. As Garbz said, mine was the one Godzilla kicked around Tokyo.
Its coming along though. New floors, mounts, corners and just about everthing else. All on a 79 Supercab 4x4 frame.
