My '97 F-150 is starting to make a clunk when you steer while driving. It doesn't do it all the time. Nothing underneath looks out of the ordinary. It steers fine, and does not wander on the road. Anyone else have this problem.
I had the same noise a couple a months ago,it was my pitman arm.It was a B to diagnose.Spray some lube in different places see if it goes away.Mine would only make noise if the truck was on the ground.97 f150 4x4 good luck
I checked the ball joints the other day, they seem ok. The drivers upper is new. It seems to make the noise when the suspension is flexing, and it seems to be coming from the right side.
come to think of it i just replaced all of my ball joints and it does the same thing, on the same side. diffrence is my truck does wander on the road, it feels unstable almost. i was going to start a new thread about it but yours has my problem so i hope you dont mind if i read off of yours.
i spent so much money replacing the front end i really cant afford to do anything about it right now but it would be extremly nice to know for future referance.
Check to make sure your sway bar end links are still there and not broken or loose. Most important though is to check your tie rod ends to make sure they have no play either sideways or up and down.
Also check to make sure your idler arm has little or no up and down movement.
checked sway bar links....still good. just replaced upper and lower balljoints as well as all 4 tie rod ends. i do recall my mechanic mentioning something about a idler arm now that you mention it.
