door chime

Hey, I have had the common problem of the dome light and door chime staying on. I cleaned the door sensors as advised here and that fixed the dome light problem. However, the door chime still stays on when I open the door with keys out of the ignition. It is just like I had left the keys in or the headlights on.

It's not a big deal, but I have gotten in the habit of ignoring it and have ended up leaving my headlights on several times. Getting ready to hand the truck down to my boy, and I know he'll end up killing a battery if I don't get this fixed.

Plus, what is the suggested mileage for serpentine belt replacement.

It may be a bad ignition switch causing the door chime problem.

in my case it was the "door dinger" itself - it controls the relay which actually turns on the lights. $5 part at the u-pull-it place

Something is getting wet, mine did it the other day. It quit after the rain stopped. I do not know what it is yet since it just happened to me. If it is a fast chime as if the headlights were left on, it is the same problem that just popped up with mine. It is not the ignition switch, I checked that.

Mine comes on constantly when the door is opened. It doesn't matter if it has rained or a month long dry spell.

When I find out, I will let you know. Mine quit doing it so I have to wait for it to happen again to find it. I have to wait so I can test for current draw to find the problem.

before you replace switches, check the small metal tab at about the seven oclock position in the hole that the ignition cylinder comes out of. there, on the rim is a small plastic clip with the contact for the dinger. on mine, the plastic broke, causing the contact to float and the cylinder to wobble slightly. i was able to epoxy the plastic part to the surrounding cast zinc housing to repair the problem (after spending cash on a new cylinder and ignition switch). the proper repair would be a replacement of the wiring harness that links the air bag and cruise to the underside of the steering column (don't have a part #) which also has the plastic clip attached to the black wire with pink tracer.

here's a drawing of the offending broken part. the whole thing isn't 1" long and 1/2" wide 3/8" deep. sorry its not a picture, i spent my camera money on the dinger parts i didn't need
