Has Anyone Noticed???
How much more fuel you can put in your tank after the nozzel ckicks off the first time. The Lariat has the 27 gal tank. I put 4 gals in it the other day after the nozzel clicked off. I drove it around town for 95 miles before the needle dropped off the full mark on the gauge..

These trucks have a very small plastic hose connected from the filler hole to the tank, about 3/4" I think.
I am the type that wants my tank full when I fill it so I learned early on that once the auto shutoff on the pump thinks it is full I can put another 3-4 gallons in. I am not sure why thet picked such a small hose.
I am not one to put $5 dollars here or $10 dollars there. I fill the tankl regardless of how full or empty the tank is every Sunday morning.

Over-filling the tank of a new ('96 on up) vehicle can damage the evaporative emissions system, causing it to run poorly. It takes time for this to occur, usually well after your warranty has run out. We have to preach to customers all the time that, when the gas pump shuts off, you can add a little to round off the odd pennies, but DON'T force another 2-3 gallons into the tank. You'll pay for it later on.

I'm sure your right about the problems with over filling although when my trunk came from the factory, the gas gauge was accurate and when it clicked off, the tank was full, which reflected on the gauge.
After the tank swap, it clicks off on 7/8 of a tank, about 22 gallons on a 26 gallon tank. It takes another 3 gallons to get the gauge to full.
Most time I don't worry about it, but if I'm hitting the highway I tend to top it to full.

Hey ChrisAdams, When you had your tank replaced was there anything said about reflashing your PCM to reflect the change in capacity of your tank? Or was your sending unit and dash gauge recalibrated for the larger capacity tank? In the 04 F-150 OWNERS MANUAL page 247 one of the bullets states: "Allow no more than 3 automatic click-offs when filling."

My tank size didn't change, my truck was one of about a thousand that had a possible defect in the tank. Still the 26 gallon. I don't think there would be a reflash as the tank sender would not need to know the size of the tank.
Three shutoffs probably makes sense. But those three on my truck are about 3 gallons...

I just filled mine this morning as I do every Sunday morning and I noted that after the first click-off I got about 1 more gallon before it started to do the 2 second click-off. From there I went and filled it until I could see it at the opening to the filler, it was 6 gallons differance
So my 26 gallon tank can only take 20 gallons
I know the manual and a few of you have pointed out to not fill it to the brim but I am with Blitzen, I want the darn thing full!!!! When you figure gas milage you get very different results if you let it go at the first or second click-off, all pumps are different so you are never sure how much gas you have used to go the milage that you are figuring. And I want it full!!
I have done this since I started driving and have never had a problem with any thing failing because of filling it all the way up. And I have had newer models 95, 97,99 and 04 F150's and have never lost any emmission parts or ran poorly.
I still have to ask why does Ford put a 1 inch tube leading down to the tank? What could this possibly do a 2 inch tube could not
