Ford has no affiliation with Cummins except for the engine contracts for the F-650 and F-750 trucks
.

I thought Ford used the CAT engine in these trucks - saw one in recent issue of Truck Trend magazine (F-650) pg. 55, top left picture (awesome looking truck).

The PSD is base, the Cummins is one option and the Cat is the top option.

When posting a reply that is directly above … THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THE QUOTE FUNCTION....lets say we get 2500 posts a week, just
to pick a number, and only 50 percent used the quote function…well, you can imagine how many extra pages are used, and not needed…
Thanks Admin

I just traded my Ford F-250 Powerstroke for a cummins. Reason, the Ford was in the shop for the motor too much. I do see about 2 mpg more around town with the cummins.

Diesel Dude

Hi

I have both a ford powerstroke and a dodge cummins currently.
Both great trucks and highly reccomend both. I love the cummins engine but newer Generations do not seem to get the MPG of older 12 valve. New trucks have a lot more power and towing but as they all keep buimping up the HP and Torque # MPG suffers... 97 Powerstroke empty gets about 16 in mixed driving Dodge about 16 also but dodge is 4x4 4 door Ford is reg cab 2wd. It is possible to get 20 mpg in Dodge on hwy empty driving like a grandma. go 70-75 and mileage drops real fast.

Dodge Trouble

I have not had trouble with the dodge cummins motor... They are great.
I have had a Lift fuel pump go out at about 40k miles on my 2004 and it was covered under warranty.. have a 90 dodge cummins with 250+K original motor and trans still runs great. The old dodge gets 20+ mpg the 04 gets 13-16mpg. I am BIG DIESEL FAN. I wont buy a GM now that they are owned (50 stock) by USA goverment. Not american and unfair advantage. I Love cummins but would not buy a dodge unless they figure a way out of there financial mess... IF i where to buy a new Truck today it would have to be a Ford. Ford has so far accepted no Tax payer funds and should be rewarded by support of there cars.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Oh well with Chrysler in chapter 11, the restructure deal may result in Cummins parting ways with Dodge (if Chrysler even makes it through). Since Ford has more or less made a split with Navistar...... maybe they could pick up Cummins to stick in the Superduty. That would be a pretty good combination in my opinion. Were I ever to go looking for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck I would give such an animal a serious look.

I really dont see how a SuperDuty with a CTD wouldnt absolutely dominate the market. The only knock against the SD's right now is the diesel powerplant they contain, with the CTD that wouldnt be an issue.

I would still like to see a few more gears in the transmission behind it though. A 5 speed auto isn't cutting it, and a 6 speed would be even better. One of my favorite features on my Tundra is the 6 speed auto, it is smooth, doesn't hunt for gears, and keeps engine speeds down at highway speeds.

Then again a 7 or 8 speed would be ideal. You could have a 4.88 or 4.30 rear end, and still have tall enough gears on the top end to keep RPM's below 2000 RPM's on the highway with all the flexibility you could want. Granted it would end up being a big heavy transmission, but there is plenty of room underneath a truck as large as the Superduty.

i had one of the local my dodge is better than your ford buttheads this morning tried to tell me his pos dodge turd regularly gets 33 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg around town when i commented that the dp tuner chip raised my mileage from 7-10mpg around town to 19-21 mpg.

one of the people standing at the counter looked him in the face, and told him he was a lying butthole.

Although I think the guy is probly full of ****, I read a couple years back that it was possible to detune the CTD and get close to 30 MPG, but you lose a crapload of power. Therefore (IMO) it would be pointless, I dont have any links supporting it but I read it on this site if you want to take the time to try and track it down.

this turdburgler is too fat and lazy to attempt to detune it. all he knows how to do is lie to play one-up on everyone he meets, and tell dirty jokes.

It could theoretically be possible if he was running propane injection and had a custom tune to take advantage of it. However the claimed economy at that point is false, given that you substitute burning one fuel for less of another.
