Please note, the date of the Spring truck show/picnic at Kankakee River State park has been changed from May 8th to May 15th, with a rain-date of May 22. Please answer this thread or the other one concerning the Spring truck show to register. Thank you.
O.K., Carol and I went to the Kankakee state park today and picked a location for next months' truck show/picnic. We will meet in Silver Poplar grove. It has a grill, a couple of picnic tables, and is near restroom facilities. If by chance that grove is occupied, we will meet in River Birch grove instead. Again, the date is May 15th, with a rain date of May 22. Please respond to this thread to register. The directions to the Kankakee state park are: from north-take IL RT.45 south to William Latham drive, take a right on Latham and take that to IL RT.102, take a right on 102 and the state park is a few miles out of town on the left side of the road. You will see the main entrance to the park, it is marked by a big brown sign. Go in there, and follow the park road to the left, all of the groves are marked by brown wooden signs, just look for Silver Poplar. From south-take IL RT.45 north to IL RT.102, there is a turnoff for RT.102 across from the Olivet Nazarene college. Take 102 a few miles out of town and the state park is on the left. Again, go into the park and head to the left, and look for Silver Poplar grove. By the way, Carol and I are planning on getting there early that day to set up, and we will be driving a brown and white 73 Ford pickup.
I sure hope that the weather is nice next Sunday for our first ever IL Chapter truck show! I'm having a little "problem" with the steering wheel on the 73 Ford which I hope to have fixed by next Sunday. It had an aftermarket custom steering wheel on it, and I took that off and replaced it with a stock Ford steering wheel. The problem is that whoever put the custom wheel on it used some sort of installation kit, and now the stock wheel doesn't fit correctly. The truck is still driveable, but there is a gap between the steering column and the wheel. I still intend on driving the 73, even if I can't fix the steering wheel. It's a really nice looking truck, and I'd like to show it off, even if the steering wheel looks kinda funky.
Carol and I are looking forward to the show next Sunday. We're looking forward to seeing everyone, and hopefully seeing alot of nice Ford trucks.
