Good Year Duratrac

OK, so my BFG 285/65*18 are done after a mere 47,000 Km. They wont be good for winter. thinking about 295/70*18 Duratrac on the stock 2005 lariat rim. What do you think about reliability, traction in winter, summer pullin and haulin, how long will they last. Anyone out there with experience.....

The only drawback of the Duratrac that I have read about (lots of research) is sidewall stability. However, it is rated no worse in this category than my OEM Goodyears (E rated tire).

I am happy w/ the performance and life of these OEM tires. I hit 75k miles a little while ago and still have SOME tread left. These tires will not do very well in mud though (even w/ a lot of tread).

All-in-all, I think I am going w/ the DuraTrac's when I can find a sale or a discount (or when the tread on my current tires becomes unsafe).

BFG's won't make good winter driving....??? I have plowed in 2ft of snow with my all terrains. These tires stand out the most in bad weather. They also have 50k miles on them and probably will make it to 75k safely....

my buddy has them and is not happy.. the lugs are tall and they are sectioned so they are not real wide ,, you can flex them with your fingers ,, I think this may be where the squirm complaints originate vs the claimed flex in the side wall .. just my observation

My brother in law has them on his 350, they have replaced 2 already and waiting on more. They simply don't balance or won't stay balanced. Wheels are good though...

From what I have read/researched, the Load rated E tires w/ 80 psig should not have the sidewall issue.

(Edit - just wanted to add that the above statement is made with limited feedback from several folks on various forums. I realize it is somewhat of a risk based on the feedback from others that states differently. I just could not find anyone that said definitely the load rated E tires had sidewall issues when aired up to 75psig or 80 psig. Also, I greatly appreciate the words of caution from zmann and sammy))

Hmm, I dont know how you guys are getting that miles out of BFG. I rotate regular, am not loaded more that 65% of GCWR when towing and they are down to 3/32. I too am totally impressed with them in winter, snow flake rating is excellent. But longevity is a problem, and rotations probably have to be even more to get max life because the fronts start to cup a bit if not rotated soon enough. BTW, when I got these, they had to replace 2 becuse they could not balance with a reasonable amount of weight. Also, I have had to have them rebalanced about every second rotation. I am running 65 to 70 lb front and 65 in back. Only run 70 when pulling hte trailer otherwise centre gets wore out to soon.

Is there another M+S with winter snow flake rating? I hear BFG A/T will no longer have this rating...

I just posted this on another topic ,, I am not sold on the issue being sidewall related
I think the siping aka small tall tread sections are the culprit

just my 2 cents however

I generally rotate at about 10k miles, I currently have them at 60psi in front and 65psi in rear. As far as rebalancing, hasn't been a issue yet for me. They only negative I can say is they are definetley humming louder & louder as the miles get put on them. I can live with that. The price of these freakin things are gettin a little outta hand though...

I have put the BFG A/T KO's on all of my 3/4-1 ton SD's, they wore very well for me, great traction in the snow and I see upwards of 65k on the tires. I keep them at 70 psi, unless towing real heavy, rotate every oil change, never an issue.

I have sold a couple sets of Dura Tracs with mixed reviews. I am not completely sold on them. I put a set of HanKook Dyna Pro ATM's on the wifes 4 Runner, and my 85 Chevy 3/4 ton plow truck. They have a 50k wear rating and the Hankook guy swares they are the best for plowing.

We shall see

Sarge
