All of mine are homebuilds...

Right now: AMD 2500+ Barton Core, 512 DDR 400 Kingston, 64MB DDR Nvidia graphics, 20 gig Maxtor HD, Lite-on DVD Burner... uh... Gigabyte Motherboard.

Should I go on??? I've got so many fans on it, it sounds like a frieght train when I start it up.

4.77 MHz IBM PC 8088, 256k RAM, 2 double density 5.5" floppy drives, monochrome 13" monitor. How's that for special?

As for what I actually use: 900MHz Athalon Desktop and a 1GHz HP Pavillion Laptop. I don't update parts on either anymore since any gaming is done on the TV now (just more comfortable that way).

The desktop HDD does occasionally make a sound similar to bad bicycle brakes. It's always done it. It'll make a computer geek wince when they hear it! For a truck guy, think of hearing someone in your truck trying to hit reverse at about 20MPH. It's that kind of gut wrencher.

I have an old HP AMD450 with Linux on it at home that I tinker with. Usually I use my work laptop, Dell Latitude D600. I should build a couple of PC but just don't have the time.

right now im sitting on my 566mhz old junker in the garage that i use for the alldata program. in my room ive 2.4 ghz pentium on a gigabyte motherboard, dvd burner, cd burner, tv card, scsi card, clear side panel, front leds, camera memory card reader, zip drive. in my sis's room ive got a 1 gig amd on a chain tech motherboard with 512mb ram. ive got a whole room just for working on them but most of them are as old as me and all i use them for is to mess with networking and for drive storage.

I bought mine at CompUsa in Clive. They also opened an Apple Store at the Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines late last year. They are great machines.

Plenty of software. New stuff all the time. These computers cost more, but they are worth every penny. Ever heard of a Mac virus? Neither have I, not once.

yea you got a point there. the only reason all my comps are running windows is because thats what i grew up on. messing with 3.1 and crap. ive started messing with linux and i kinda like it. me and my older bro are going to split the cost and go buy linux 10. from what ive heard linux is alot safer than windows because most ads and pop ups and spyware and whatnot is targeted towards internet explorer in windows. how much does a new mac run price wise?

Buy? Linux??? I hope you're not considering buying a mac just to run Linux. There are PLENTY of free Linux distributions out there. I like the Fedora Core 3, which is based on Red Hat.

See here.

As per what computer I am using...

Right now I'm typing this on an Compaq laptop, Athlon XP-M 2800+, DVD-ROM / CD-RW, 512MB DDR, 40GB HD. Fedora Core 3 linux OS.

My good computer is an Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB DDR400 ram, dual 250GB hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration, and a DVD writer.

Then there's the server... this could go on.

I run a computer business.

well, we have a gateway and a chepo emachine. The emachine is for my messing around, it doesn't need to do a lot, the gateway has much more to it, but don't ask me specs, I'd have to hand you off to the wife, not my area of expertise..
