352 engine any good?

67 was just the last year for the 352 in the f trucks. it was used in all the trucks from the 60's till then. it shares the same block as the 360, 390 ,410 and i think the 428. it is a good motor and can be made better with a 390 kit if you want more power. if you just want to rebuild as a driver its fine like it is.

The 352 is one of the FE family of engines. It was introduced in cars in '58 (possibly early '57), but wasn't used in trucks until '65. The 352 came in trucks '65 - '67, and was replaced by the 360 in '68. Cars used the FE up to 1970 or so. The 390 was a popular upgrade up to '76, the last year for the FE engines in trucks.
The 360 is a 390 block with a 352 crank and rods. If you can find a 360/390 block you will be better off for future rebuilds as the bore starts off larger. This is because the 352 uses smaller cylinders to start with in the original casting of the block.
Stock FE engines include the 330, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427 and 428.
There are many variations, to include hydraulic vs adjustable valves, racing vs passenger car types and more. The neat thing about FEs is that almost any block (there are some exceptions of course) can be made into many of the other FE displacements, because so much interchanges within the FE family.
(Note: The Ford 429/460 is the 385 series Family. They are completely different. Nothing interchanges between the 385s and the FEs, except gasoline, oil and antifreeze.)
There are two more, called FT motors for Ford Truck, the 361 and 391. They are a heavy duty application though.
You might want to search in the FE forum here on FTE to learn more. In my opinion, they are one of the best motors Ford ever made, even if they are old technology.

It is best to start a whole new thread for your question in the slick forum as this is a zombie thread from 2005 in the 67-72 forum, and people won't see it. Now to your question. What is the wheel base of your 65? Your 74 has a wheelbase of 133". 67-72's had a wb of 131" which means with an 8' bed, you would have a bed and cab gap of 2" which is unsightly. You would have to move the rear axle forward to make up the 2".
And can you weld and fabricate as you might have to make new body mounts as it is not a bolt together affair.
