Question Excursion and Lemon Law Rating

First of all I love my truck. I'm on my second X after recieving a new 2005 to replace a lemon 2003 under MN Lemon Law. The 2005 has as many issues and even a few more than the 2003. Out of curiousity I did a search for "Ford Excursion Lemon Law" and was rather surprised to see the Ford Excursion near the top (worst) in lemon law claims. I have to wonder if this plays another part in the end of the Excursion after 2005? I'm a pretty passive guy(Norwegian) but paying $700/month should get me some pretty high satisfaction. Maybe I'll take a couple of Valium, go sit in my truck in the garage and think about it. Can I go after Ford for an addiction problem??? Just kiddin!

Sorry to hear of the aggravation. I can only imagine getting a new vehicle (especially to replace a lemon) and having more trouble.

My '05 was delivered with a few dumb little things, like a stain on the part of the dash that covers the fuses and a rear door light switch that did not work...as well as a pulley squeek under the hood. Which, by the way...it DOES NOT do at the dealer. Arrg.

Mine is a V10, if that matters. I wish you all the best. (Now the dealer says they have a definate fix for the stalling in my '03 Cobra....let';s see.)

Maybe I'll keep mine and not upgrade to a later model like I was thinking.

I have an 02 Limited with absolutely no issues.....ever.

Same thoughts here.....my 2000 X is going strong and looking great....why spoil a good thing. I too was thinking of upgrading but I think I'll wait.

I myself have an '01 Limited and thought about trading for a new '03 and '04 model. But then I realized how much I'd miss my 7.3 and as lockdoc600 said, 'why spoil a good thing?'

nanuke1, it sucks that you have to go through this again. This time, if push comes to shove, I hope things go better than before.

i thought about getting an 05 too but with 26000 on my 02 and no problems at all why bother. Not real crazy about the monochromatic scheme on the ltds or the 2 tone seats in the eddie bauers.

Have a 00 ltd 2wd with 58k and just encountered the first significant issue : the power locks are fading.......... only 3 or 4 more payments and I was thinking of getting an 04 or 05. Overall, we've been very happy.

Do a search with the words "Ford Excursion Lemon Law" and you'll see lots of neet stuff. I've hed older F350's and never had even one issue. I feel like they are pushing the technology issue too fast for sales results. Don't worry though - I will not go to any other company for my trucks because Ford still rules!

Lightbulb I searched the complaint NHTSA Records

I searched through a lot of records from the NHTSA and found that many of the complaints were from tire failures. I'm going to see if I can get an exact number but after searching through about half of the 217 Meg text file, I found that about 80% of the complaints were due to tire failure. This may give some indication as to why these trucks are up on the list. Excursions are essentailly F250's so you would expect them to be close in complaints registered. This leads me to believe that the excursion was sold with different tires than most F250's? Anyone else seeing the same conclusions I do?

I feel your pain my brother ! I bought a new limited 6.0 PSD 03 on Jan 1 / 04 and I swear it's been in the shop for 2 months, no kidding . Just to mention a few issues : diesel flash issues, rear window not opening, front end shake(still bad around 70), whole temp control unit shuts down...... And some how I still love that P.O.S. !?!?!?, could be that now the engine is stable, it is a bad mother .
I too will stick with ford for I traded a 98 f150 with 100k very hard miles with no issues . I have around 33k on the X now, probably too late to claim lemon ?

Aaaarrrg!

You guys are making it even harder!
I am making plans to off the X and get an F250 PSD. We have 4 cars and the kids are getting older, driving off on their own. I seem to use the X only for projects now (like 52 sheets of 19/32 for a buddies roof). Sheetrock, 2x6's, insulation (remodeling the upstairs). I'm getting tired of cleaning the interior, so I thought I'd get a pickup.
Since my X has been error free for years and the most favored to be driven because it's just awesome, and you all are saying a problem free X is one in a million, it makes it harder to sell

What's a guy to do

I disagree that a problem free X is 'one in a million'. I've just encountered the first significant problem (door lock actuators) in the 70k miles we've put on our '00. The versatility of this vehicle far outweighs that one problem or even a few others that may be 'just down the road'! We'll get an '04 or '05 later this year......my wife and 4 kids are used to the room and wouldn't settle for anything else..... the toughest choice is: 10cyl or PSD? The 6.8L 10cyl has been a little tough on the wallet...... but I wonder if the PSD is as quick in start/stop city traffic, which makes up about 20-30% of our driving?

I completely agree with the versatility of the X. Awesome truck!
If your concern for the new motor is $ only, get the V10.
I wish we had the PSD, but it costs more up front, maintenance is a bit more, and right now, fuel costs more.
Quick? I saw a lifted F350 CC PSD with a chip and exhaust mod do 122 mph in 11.2 sec in the 1/4 mile!

Excursions are reliable

If all the people who keep knocking the reliablity of the excursion take a look at the numbers. This machine is a very solid performer and a lot of complaints regarding the tires have really made the excursion look worse than it is.
