Just got a 2005 F150!

I just got it yesterday. Its basicly a base model. The only options it has is AOD and AC. Its the little 4.2 V6 but thats really all I need!
These are cool trucks I must say. I love the rear package doors! Thats a nice feature! The salesman told me that there is a 'limp-home' mode that if my V6 starts to over heat that it will shut down 2 cylenders? LOL Thats kind of neet. I also like the fact that I have the same size radiator as all the big motor trucks, they told me that Ford went to only using on really big rad. in all of the 2005 trucks so I should have extra coolling just in case. I guess you can say thats one side bennie of getting the V6 here.

So how you guys likin your 05's?

First 2 things I will need to do is to get a bed liner and pull the AM-FM radio out and install a CD player. Anyone know if they make an install kit for the 2005 for a standard din?

You might find one cheap way to get a CD deck in there is to buy a factory one from Ebay. Maintains the look of the dash, and super easy to install! Lots of guys are selling their factory units after upgrading to aftermarket.

Congrats on the new rig!

Congrats on the new truck! Let the mods begin! Check out Crutchfield.com for single din CD head units. Fordcanuck has a great idea though and probably a heck of alot cheaper than going with an aftermarket unit.

Congrats on your "new arrival" from here too! Hope you like your '05 as much as I like mine. I have an STX with the 4.2L, it runs well and has plenty of power for my needs also. I've had 4 pickups before this one, and a consistant frustration has been not enough storage space in the cab, Ford really got it right this time.

Thanks guys! I am really digin this truck. Everyone likes it! With the extra room in the cab, opening side cab doors and the spring loaded tail gate everyone loves it. I also really like the look of the dash!
The power is just right for me. Just a little pep to get moving! I do notice that if I want to get up a hill a little faster without steping on the pedal harder all I have to do is knock the overdrive off and there she goes!!!

I have looked on E-Hay about the factory CD players/changers, but I read in the manual that Ford CD players arn't %100 compatable with CDR disks. Thats something that totaly puts the kybosh (spelling) on using Ford CD players. I want total CDR compatability, also want to use CD Text. I am gona look at getting another CD player / changer combo. I would like a CD/Tape/CD Changer set. hehe

My buddies dad says I should get a spray in liner. I was thinking of getting the Ford one. Any sugestions?

Those rear doors sold me too. I got a new STX about a month ago and have been quite pleased. Fortunately it came with the nice deck and wheels thrown in with the package. Only thing I need is the receiver hitch. One of the reasons I bought it was for the comfort. I will appreciate it on upcoming vacations with all the room inside. I'm getting pretty decent gas mileage at about 19 mpg and would like to see it get up around 21 mpg if possible.

The spray in bedliner is nice but I see our local dealer offers the drop in below the rail bedliner for $195. I am leaning in that direction but I don't plan to use the bed for much. I'll use the trailer if I have anything I need to haul.

Cool

Good luck w/ the new ride Joe. I've had my FX4 Screw for a year now and love it. I din't do any bed protection yet(don't use this one for work), but I probably will go w/ spray in. I've had the drop-in in my last 3 trucks and have to advise against them for the following reasons:
1. Things slide on them very easily(spray in don't)
2. They trap sand/dirt/water underneath
3. They wear of the paint on the bed floor due to rubbing(kinda defeats the purpose dosen't it?)
4. Due to no drainage, after a good rain, theres a cascade of water out the back
