Where is the best place to find resto parts for a 1973 Ranchero?

I've got a 74 that I turned into a 72 with the help of a Gran Sport Torino front clip and doors, and I've always dealt with Dearborn Classics for resto parts. I've heard that Autokrafters deals with the Rancheros also, not sure though. Hope this helps.

Dearborn Classics, AutoKrafters,Hemmings Motor News, E Bay Motors are good sources. Being an owner of a '73 Ranchero 500 & a '79 Ranchero Squire I have had good luck from all of these. I have found a very good web site; Rancheros Us that is very commited to the owners of these vechs. much like this site is

Your post didn't mention any specific parts. Are you looking for mechanical stuff? Interior items like carpet? seat upholstery?

 

Actually I was asking for a friend who had run out of option. He is looking for a gas tank. I knew you guys would be able to steer us in the right direction. Thank all of you for your replys, I'm sure he will now be able to find everything he needs. Thanks again guys.

When you buy the tank don't forget the filler seal (E1AZ9072B) They are still avalible from the dealer and are about $10. Dan the ranchero man.

 

it's a little more complicated. the 73 tank is not available, but the 74-9 tank is. it's a little bigger and the pick-up tube is a little different. the 74-9 sending unit is VERY hard to find, i just added a little length to my original pick up tube. the vent in the top of the tank is different too, if you have the metal vent that holds in with a twist lock ring you'll need the plastic vent for the 74-9 tank and the rubber grommet that holds it in. i got my vent from Dearborn Cla$$ics and the grommet from Green Sales. check with Green Sales first to see if they have the vent, grommet and the filler tube seal. the filler tube and the seal were the same from my 72 and the 74-9 tank. like Dan says, get a new filler tube seal, it'll be crap. i got the new straps that fit the larger tank when i ordered mine too, the originals can be made to work with longer bolts and a little bending but for $25 and no dicking around it was worth it. the cheapest place i found for the tank and straps was www.Ineedparts.com the shipping was real cheap too, i had the thing in two days! then i found out i needed all the other goodies to make the swap.

 

I have a 74 ranchero and it uses the same tank as the 72-76. The 77-79 uses a different shaped tank (I own a 79 too), But all the tanks are 26 GAL (21 imp gal). If you get the straps sending unit and use your old filler tube you can make the newer set up work quite well in your 72-73. Take care Dan the ranchero man.

 

Concerning the fuel tank issue, '72-'74 were 21.5 Gal.(18.75 Imp.) '75 -'79 Were 26.5 gal (21.2 Imp), of course they are interchangable with the right pick up / sending unit, and modification to the straps. I owned a '72 and an early production '74 and they both had the smaller cap. tanks. My'73 that I currently own also has a 21.5 tank. I mention early production '74 because they had a conventional ignition sytem using points. The later prod. models used the electronic ign. and possibly the 26.5 gal tank as the '75 started using the larger tank till the end of prod. in '79.
