There are no VINs on 66s, and information in 66 serial # is only partial data. The data or warranty plate contains all details such as they are. VINs didn't start until the 1968 Federal Mandate, and unlike the earlier S/Ns a VIN contains all the information & data, including a units' serial# or build number.
To decode information on a specific unit, copy codes on data plate and look them up among code tables printed in front of OEM Service/ Repair or Truck Parts manuals.
If you do not have or have access to one of the manuals, then post everything on your Data/ Warranty Plate, except last 6 digits of your serial number, which are a build number for your unit, if you're antsy about publishing you serial/ID number. Somebody with the ability will respond to you with the info you want.
And if you aren't certain your serial number is correct, double or cross check it with the number stamped on the upper, R/F, flange of your frame, under inner fender, just ahead of engine X Member. . . . If frame # = door data/ warranty plate #s then serial ID is correct. And if nobody changed anything over the last 39 years those codes will describe/ correspond to your equipment and other info. . . .
