ok, i can not find it in my haynes manuel anyplace and i was wondering what is was because i am getting ready to install a new stereo system. its only going to be about 700 watts. i have a 400 watt amp and a 300 watt. those numbers are both RMS watts
Hey DeckedOut, The power you were talking about, 700 watts RMS, is the out put to your speakers. It's not the power required to run the amp. That should be a totally different amount that should be listed somewhere on the amp or spec sheet that came with it.
power out always equals power in. your amp should have an input rating and fuse requirement. never over-fuse. be sure to use something like 4gauge cable to the amp and do not lengthen the ground wire. i used to have a Zeus rated at 600 watts out stereo; 900 mono, all at 0.02%, 2-12's, 4-8's, 2-5.25's, 2 horns, and 2 piezos. the input rating was 100 amps, so i used a self-resetting circuit breaker rated at 40 amps. it would blow out a lit match; i tripped the breaker once. A/C on at night, cruising the strip, at 125 dB, you can really tax your electrical system.( had to push the SVO off the grand strand at Myrtle Beach) with a 130 amp alternator, you should be fine. good luck!
thanks, i just talked to a guy and he said i should run 4 gauge to my distribution block then 8 gauge from there to the amps. he also said not to mount my block no further than 18 inches from the battery and to upgrade the factory ground wire from bater to body or frame to 4 gauge as well.
