Rear diff question - inspection.

I just went out and purchased everything for a full change of fluids. Now I have a question, how can I tell if the rear end has a limited slip or not, or if it is just shot? If it is shot how hard is are they to repair/replace?
OBTW just as I got home from the autoparts store it started raining.
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S. there is no tag on the trans, I looked.

When looking inside the diff itself you will see pretty much just a cross shaft, and spider and side gears if its an open diff. If its a limited slip you'll see clutch packs inside. Replacing a limited slip isn't extremely hard to do, but I would recommend getting somebody to help and/or a good manual if you've never done it before.
