Exclamation Gas Mileage for Triton V10 (1999 F250)

Anyone have a Triton V10 6.8L 415 CI 362 HP engine in an F250?

I'm thinking about buying one, and want to know what type of gas mileage this gets, city and highway. Also, if pulling a 10k pound trailer, what type of gas mileage you get (especially important, since I want to pull a trailer). Any problems pulling a trailer with this?

You will have no problem pulling a trailer. My 99 F-350 CC gets 13 and change pretty reliably with the cruise set to 75. I could probably squeeze 14 or so out of it if I wanted to drive slower. Around town I get around 11.5. I don't pull a trailer but I load the thing to the brim with cordwood all the time. The gas mileage does not seem to change too much. Hope this helps...Phil

My 2001 V-10 F250 4x4 gets 9-10 mph in town; 15 mph on the highway; and about 9 mph when towing a 10,000-lb 5th wheel. It does really well towing - there's no hill we haven't been able go up - but it's occasionally 3rd gear, 42 mph and 4K rpm through mountain passes.
I'm selling this truck right now, if you're interested - look at my add in the web site classifieds.

my cousin has one and so does one of my best friends....my cousin has a 8" lift and 38 swampers and gets 7.9 miles per gallon, and my friend gets 9.1. i personally have a diesel and get 15 and have a lot more power and can tow a house. it is all personal choice, but after driving and riding in both the power is slightly less in a gas motor as is the milage. good luck!

Hey Guys,
I have a 99 F250 with the V10 engine also. Are those specs correct...did they have 362 HP in 99? If so, what are the new V10s rated at?

From what I remember, the 99's had 275hp and the 00's were bumped up to 310hp. Beyond that, I don't know.

Pretty close. The new one has 355 HP I believe.

Oh, if you're going to tow 10,000 lbs, prepare for 6-7 mpg. I would look for at least a 2000 and up to gain the extra HP.

I had a 99 F250 2WD 4.10 rear, during the years (99 to 2011) I owned it I towed a 10,000 lb 5er over many passes. Running empty, on the highway I got about 14 mpg Running loaded, with passes and headwinds it would drop as low a 8 I consistently kept the speed down, seldom over 65. The 99 (and 98 in fleet vehicles) has a different crank then the 2000 and produced the lower HP

My 99 scab 2WD with 430 gears generally gets around 12-13 MPG highway, 10-11 around town and 8-10 towing my 7K# travel trailer. In winter I lose about 2 MPG on the high end for the winter formulated gas.
