What do you pull with your Excursion??
#3
I tow a variety of trailers, everything from a small 8' utility trailer that I don't know is there until I hit a bump. Up to a very large equipment trailer for my daughter's rowing team. That trailer can weigh up to 9,000 fully loaded. I haven't got up that high yet, but routinely haul it with a 8,000 lbs load. A minimum of two pulls per week from last week of February through the end of June. I'll most likely heading to Canada at the end of this year.
I also haul a car trailer with my 65 muscle car to at least one show per year. You can check out my gallery to see what I haul. I tried to post the link to my gallery, but I guess I'm still too new. Just go to the gallery, do a search for a 2000 Excursion 4x4 and look for the gallery; "What I Tow".

Going to pull a 79 F-350 Ext cab (6100 lbs) on a flatbed trailer (3500 lbs) that has a 4'x8' shed on the front that houses 4 spare 35" rims/tires, 33 gal compressor, gas generator, 4 ton jack, and all my air tools and hand tools....not to forget about 1K-1.5K lb of hanging weight for on the front bar of the pulling truck. The trailer weighs about 11-12K lbs depending on the amount of weights I take. Plus I'll have the rear area of the Ex full of coolers and chairs and 6-8 family members in the Ex.

17mpg highway normal driving 60-70mph and around 14-15mpg combined.
when I quote 13mpg highway with the boat that is a long run to the south coast with the cruise set at 60mph for hours on end.
have never monitored urban driving with the boat as I don't want the wife to freak out even more

No secrets that I know of, I run 45lbs tire pressure, regular gas (95 octane here in the UK) suppose I just ain't heavy footed? with gas at $7 a gallon you can't be too over zealous with tha gas pedal!!
My computer shows 15mpg for the last few days but remember that a UK gallon is 15% more than a US gallon so that is 15mpg +15% = 17.25mpg if the computer is to be believed??
I have done the usual fill up to the brim and drive then refill to measure and it still works out about the same give or take 0.5-1mpg.
My wife was quite happy our first trip with the Travel trailer that we got 15mpg on a 400 mile journey (5500lb + wife ,3 kids,4 dogs and luggage),
ofcourse if I am racing from stoplight to stoplight it will drop dramatically, just need to reset the computer before the wife gets in!!
the motor is stock (at least I think it is) I have made no mod's at all.

With my Banks equiped 7.3 I am getting 17.4 mpg. I just drove from Pittsburgh PA down I-79 to RT-19 to I-77 and down to Charlotte NC and averaged 17.4 MPG per the gas pump and my cell phone calculater. I filled it at home and drove straight to NC and filled it again and did the math. I was kind of sad, I am dreaming of 19-20 MPG empty highway MPG. I added my Banks 6-gun while I am here in NC, so next weekend I'll drive home with the 6-gun on level 6 and see if it gets me to 19 MPG or if it takes some away. I set the cruise on 68 for the trip here, I'll do the same going home. Its just about a 500 mile trip.

I pull a 30' camper/toy hauler so the wight depends on what I have loaded in the back. (picture of this rig in my gallery) I have had two Yamaha Grizzly four wheelers along with all of the hunting stuff for two weeks of elk hunting. If you pull anything this heavy the Hensley Arrow is definitely the way to go. Before the HA I was almost ready to sell the camper because of the sway induced loss of handling.....but I am happy to say those days are gone and I now tell the camper which way to go!
I also have several other trailers of various sizes...the next largest is a really tall 26' four place enclosed snomobile trailer. I can get 5 machines in there and it makes for quite a load too!
I outfitted my 2000X with a four inch turbo back exhaust system and have the DiabloSport Predator programmer. I either tow in towing mode if going into altitudes or also pull in the 60 HP mode. I also have the Hellwig anti sway rear bar and good shocks. I added a billet grill to the front of the beast and recently added the clear euro headlights and turn markers! It looks and drives so good I am going to have a hard time to trade up if I should get the urge!
Happy pulling!

A US Gallon = 3.785412 litres
A UK or Imperial Gallon = 4.545 litres
However remember that the computer is set for US gallons so it gives me the readout 0f 15mpg for every 3.785412 litres used.
OR 3.96258 miles per litre.
A Uk Gallon is 4.545 litres so 3.96258 x 4.545 = 18.0099 mpg
Simple really
