New Mega Cab

http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosins.../A01-78860.htm
Pretty interesting read here. Dodge's mega cab will be made public next week for the 2500 series, but oddly they only mentioned it would be available with the "HEMI". Maybe they'll unvail the 6.1 liter then cuz i don't think they're gonna cut into ford's sales like they're hoping to do, without the Cummins at least.

I cannot believe this will cut into ...many sales at all; it would not turn around in a forty acre field.

This is one big truck. I think it is critical for Dodge to offer a cab like this. Like Ford foes with the SDs. Yes the Hemi will be standard equipment as usual for the 2500s, and if what I have been hearing is true, there will be a 6.1 option on the Ram sometime within the next year. Just in time to go with the MegCab. There will be a Cummins option for this truck like the other HDs, and if not right off the get-go, in time for sure. I think this will definately help Ram sales for 06, especially if the 6.1 is offered. Dodge has needed a truck this size for a while.

Musclecar_fan, do you know when Dodge will be offering MDS on the Rams?

Another question about the 6 speed auto's. Will they be an option on the Rams?

There are no plans for MDS on Rams at the current time. I read something about DC saying that MDS was not suitable for applications for a truck. At the current time there is no MDS planned or being worked on.

I have some info on the 6 speed manual transmission offerings from Chrysler that will be spread throughout the Chrysler lineup. But nothing on an auto 6 spd.

Here is a quote I found on dodgeboy.net :

<!--StartFragment -->“A six-speed manual transmission will now be standard equipment improving performance and driving pleasure in Jeep vehicles and Dodge Trucks where manual transmissions are offered,” said Bob Lee, Vice President – Powertrain Product Team, Chrysler Group.

Does Chrysler even offer a 6 spd auto ? Or am I just gapping out here ?

I am looking at Ram engine and tranny configurations from an 05 product catalogue. Here is what is offered in Rams:

Engine/Transmission(s)

3.7L V6..... 6 spd manual - Multispeed automatic
4.7L V8..... 6 spd manual - 5 spd automatic
5.7L V8..... 5 spd manual - 5 spd automatic - 6 spd manual
5.9L I-6.... 6 spd HD manual - 6 spd manual - 4 spd automatic

Mercedes Benz has a 6 speed auto, which I believe is why he was asking if it would find its way into a Ram Truck.

I thought that since Mercedes has the 6 speed then it would be mated to the Hemi. I was also under the impression that Mercedes either has a 7 speed or is working on one and thought the 6 speed would make it into the Chryslers and Dodges?

Maybe you guys can also help understand the advertised 5 speed behind the Hemi. It is actually a 5 speed or do they call it a 5 speed because it has the different kick down gear? Just wondering if it shift 5 times or just 4 times under normal load.

I have even heard rumors of an 8 speed for the Rams sometime down the road. Weather or not thats true I have no Idea. Other than that I can't tell ya much more than I already have. Google it and you'll probly find some of the info you are looking for.

They're going to have to come out with something that has way more gears to make any of the Cummins' power useful.

Agree with you 100% there. The Cummins has great potential. They gotta get the best out of it.
