63 to 78 F250 4x4 drivetrain swap

Does anyone know if a 78 F250 front and rear differential would fit under a 63 frame? I have not seen the donor vehicle but I am told it has a Dana 60 rear and a Dana 44 front differential( if also has front leaf springs like the 63). The only difference that I am aware of is that I have a low pinion Dana 44 and the 78 is a high pinion. If this would work it would give me front disc brakes and power steering.

The donor also has a 351 with a C6. I don't know if this could be easily connected to by Spicer 24 transfer case.

Thanks for the help.

Brad, It might be simplier to move the sheet metal over to the later chassis.

This is not a bolt up project either way.

I'm no expert, but the steering is probably going to need some linkage modifications but I would think that any suspension and steering/braking issues would be simpler than a body swap. The pitman arms may be different.
I always thought that the '70's frames were longer and if the fenders of the '60's body matched the wheels properly there would be about a 2" inch gap between the cab and bed. I have seen a '65 body on a 3/4 ton '73-'76 4x4 chasis and it had an unsightly gap (my opinion) between the cab and bed.
No expert, just my two cents.

Look in here for some pix that may help you out. I'm doing a 64 on a 79 F-150 4x4 chassis, but it's pretty much the same deal.

Hello ,

I am a new member but a long time truck owner. I have a 63 uni I started building almost 20 year ago and now am gettin around to finishing it.
I put a 78 f250 4x4 drive train in my 63 .Used stock 63 frame. Move rear spring saddles on diff in and bolt shackles right to frame. Sway bar bolts right up also but I reinforced bolt hole on frame
Front axle bolted right up I think. Drill frame for rear shackle . Have to weld to fit front shackle , but it was simple.
Used 78 motor mount and welded to frame
Set engine with front drive shaft for length and weld motor mounts
Shorten rear shaft. Front sway bar bolts up also
Next step for me is to mount a 78 power box and I am going to use an aftermarket tilt custom colum.
Good luck
