Low Range Light staying ON

Low Range Light staying ON
Hello,
This might sound silly but remember this is my 1st 4x4! Well, last night I was driving in the snow and I put the switch in 4L. Well, I took off from a stop sign and suddenly the LOW RANGE light came on and now it will not go off and the vehicle will not even come out of 4X4 mode (the 4x4 light is staying on too).
I do not have any manuals so I do not know what to do. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem and make it disengage the 4x4 Low range mode? Thanks!
Why did the LOW RANGE light suddenly come on anyway?
Also, is it okay to switch between 2WD and A4WD or 4H while driving? This is a 1997 Expedition EB.

When I bought mine used ( a 99) I had the same problem and no manual. I never use low anymore, so I think you have to be idleing in neutral to make the switch. The others you can just turn the **** while moving. I don't think you need low, unless you are pulling something very heavy in a field or something. Driving on the road with it will cause problems real fast. I had called my local dealer when mine was stuck in low and offered to bring it in. They are only a few miles away. He said not to drive it that far, I would damage something. When you turn the key off and let it sit for a while it might reset itself. Mine did. The next morning it was back in all wheel by itself. I had the switch in that position when I shut it off. Good luck with it.
