Fuel Milage = Fuel Filter

Has anyone ever noticed an increase in fuel milage after changing their filters??? I am about to change mine and I have 23000 miles on the originals and my milage stinks.

Motown,
Generally speaking, you should change the fuel filter every 15k miles, not because it is stopped up, but because it has a service life. But, to answer your question you would be experiencing a loss of poer with a dirty fuel filter.

I would say you are a little overdue. That could be a distinct possibility of the cause of poor mileage. It isn't hard to do. Go to the .....Tech Folder..... at the start of this forum and it is full of procedures on how to do your own maintenance.

Do yourself a favor out there and read your owner manuals, especially the parts on maintenance. It isn't exciting reading but it can save you a lot of grief.

Holy smokes Motown.
23K ?
Seriously you gotta stay on top of that better.
Not to preach but you are aware of how critical the high pressurized fuel system is on injectors and what not right.
Just order a few kits online and its cheap and easy to change. Like 1-third price of auto parts store.
You have a 4x2 if i remember correctly so no excuse not to change them on schedule(15K) and to drain the water seperator 1x month.

P.s. Did you ever do the 2"spacer lift in front?

Thanks to SBV45 for those good easy to fallow directions on the filter change it was very easy. As we like to sayin my line of work it was "fireman proof". Thanks to Darryl also for putting together the tech folder that thing is awesome. Loonatic I got rid of that truck and I have an 04' 4x4 now so I never did the spacers just added an axle. But i did buy the filters from filter1.com it's a great deal.

I dont believe the miles on the filter will make any difference, mine gets poor mpgs also so changed the filters out early no diff. especially if you run fuel additive. IT is not uncommon to run fuel filters for 15 k on big truck diesels the thing that plugs them is water and trash in the fuel ,so if you run good fuel and additive the water is broken down and run through your engine and it doesnt effect the mpgs or the filter. but if left untreated and unchanged it can effect performance.

I changed mine at 15,000 and 30,000. No mileage difference. The latest Ford PCM flash made a big difference. It is now back to what it was before the Oct03 flash. You might have them check out the EB sensor. Or be adventurous and do it yourself.

Were you talking to me on the eb sensor, they replaced mine no difference, Ijust cant figure it out my buddy has same tuck and gets 5 mpg better then me.and we switched trucks and his does the same with me driving, he cant believe mine. I even got the new flash no diff. I now use mine for towing o0nly and leave it in the shop and drive another truck but I do miss it the fuel was just out of sight. oh well it still looks good and get a lot of calls on selling it just wish someone would buy it so I can get a new one.

No, tnmac, I was focused on motown. But, while we're at it, did they test or replace the injection control pressure sensor and/or valve?

If you have the test equipment or access to the test equipment I can send you how to diagnose it out of the service manual. Send me a PM with your email address with spaces on each side of the @ sign.

THEY replaced the sensor and pcm and just about every other engine related sensor, and have now taken the stand that there is no problem and will not address any thing fuel related,so it now has to be performance related, and the truck runs better then it did when new, just no mpgs. The tech told me he has seen one other truck that was like mine but it ran bad he has done everything he can. I cabt figure it out. I am no longer madd, just disappionted.
