Help removing plenum on 5.0

on my '89 there is a torx bolt in the center under the plenum. I can't get a torx socket to fit in there. Is this going to be another special tool I have to search and find or is there a trick here? Nobody around me has a long shaft torx set and it will have to be special ordered.

Now I know why all my Dodge buddies hate Fords, Ford don't make things easy on us do-it-yourselfers!

It's a T40, and there are some with long shanks, specifically for things like this bolt. If you can get a T40 bit that's the same size as a screwdriver bit for a drill, you can use a 1/4 inch socket to turn it. On my truck, I actually filed away enough metal from the casting (not the runners) to get the 3/8" drive t40 bit in there.

Find one of your local Snap-on or Mac Toold dealers or look for one of their trucks crusing around, they will have just what you need.

Somebody (I think greystreak not sure) posted a trick to doing this either in this forum or the "Big Bronco" forum, do a seach for T40 torx and read some of the threads that come up.

Hm I thought it looked like a T-30. LOL I don't want to have to take out a second mortgage on my house so Mac and Snap-on are out. I mean I see the set I need on Mac Tools web site but it $140 + bucks!

This is a decent price for the bit. You must have got a price on an entire set?

Buy it, (you don't really have a choice) use it, and then sell it on Ebay and re-coupe some of your money.

Well I have a catalog from a local auto parts supplier called Westbay Auto Parts, they sell Parts Plus parts.
In there catalog its a Astro Pneumatic brand part # AST-1023. It says 'All T-handles are 10" long.' but it looks like the smaller the shorter they are. They have sizes: T-10, 15, 20, 25, 27, 30, 40, 45, and 50.
Here is a site that shows em for sale for $32+, I had the price wrong at my store, they have em for $35.99: http://www.etoolcart.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3191

Its in now but I will have to wait till tomarrow to pick it up.

I bought a set of cheap torx at sears, not craftsmen. The T40 is 1/4 inch drive, and I used my screwdriver with a 1/4 bit to remove it. I think the set was 20$. You will need a set for ford anyway. Even the brake caliper has T.

I got a 3/8" set from Sears but thats all they had. I think the 1/4" drive set was sold out as the spot on the rack next to the 3/8" Torx set I bought was empty and it had a reorder tag hanging there.
