Ford drops Hurricane engine to compete with hemi

I just was reading on blueoval news that Ford is dropping plans to make the hurricane motor to compete with the hemi. Ford instead is directing funds to a new V-6 motor. Some people will be disapointed with this news. It doesnt bother me in the least. Iam aglad Ford is not falling for this ploy. Last year Ford sold 940,000 trucks and Dodge truck sales were down. The new 150 is selling extremely well and the hemi nonsense is backfiring for Dodge.

Wow, this is interesting news, thanks for the heads up.

Personnally I think that it would be nice if Ford offered a stronger engine for the F150. There should be a cheapie but torquey v6 option for the folks who need an inexpensive work truck, there should be a nice solid V8 (like the current 5.4) that is the most common selection for folks of almost all needs/capacities, and there should be a high-end big block for people who really need the most towing/payload capacity (and also for those who just want lots 'o wheel smokin' power). For the monster engine choice (similar to Chevy's 8.1L v-8) Ford could shoe-horn the V10 in there, or could offer the new, slightly smaller diesel that they are rumored to be working on.

I can't wait to see what big blue comes up with as their engine choices in the next 2 - 3 years.

maybe the v6 engine they are working on is the v6 diesel for the f150's and expy's

that would blow dodge and chevy away alot more than the hurricane would

The 5.4 in a f-150 is more than adequate......in a super duty it is underpowered. The 6.8L is a good solid engine with a ton of torque for a gasser but the HP numbers are only slighty better that the 5.4L The V10 is the only way to go if you were going to get a gasser super duty. If Ford wanted to offer one gasser and one diesel for the super duties is sounds logical to have a big displacement V8 and a V8 turbo diesel. Personally I have a V10 ina super duty and it is a good engine, but I would love a V8 with better HP numbers and at least the same torque numbers.

Navistar builds a V-6 diesel engine for I believe Volvo and other foreign markets at the Huntsville, AL plant.

Perhaps this is the "small diesel" that you are referring ...

The first company to make a good diesel in a 1/2 ton will make a lot of money. Also, if they make I6 or V6 diesel with like the ZF5, then they will blow away competition. If I can get a diesel halfton with a stick, I will be first in line to buy one, wheather it be Imported or not(as long as it isnt fugly), and I am sure there are many people with me on this subject

Another thread in the Ford V Comp forum about the same thing.

You betcha, I'd be bustin' the doors down if I could get into a F-150 with a V-6 or I-4 diesel and a ZF-5.

I wouldn't even let the portable parking lot hit the dealer ship, I'd just have them drop it of at my house.

The V-6 "baby" Power Stroke is a 4.5L. Ford is currently using this engine in the LCF line of trucks. It is rumored to be in the works for the F150 line up once the Diesel fuel gets cleaned up so it can pass emisions (new lower sulfer content requirements).

I am right there with you on this one. Bring on a half ton diesel with tons 'o torque (hp not so important) and 20 mpg and it would be a big seller. I bet they are waiting on the cleaner diesel fuel -- when's that take effect? 2007? That's not so far away. If they're going to offer it as a 2007 model, I'm sure we'd get to see it at auto shows sometime in 2006. I think it's great that Jeep has their little diesel now being offered in their Liberty SUV.

Also, I would love to see a redesigned Ranger (larger than current) with a nice strong little I4 diesel option. Great mileage and tough as nails. But I digress.

I wouldn't be surprised if you see one...
