hard to start

i have a 98 f150 extended cab with short bed and 4x4 with 77,000 miles it has been hard to start in the cold below 20 degrees it acts like it is not getting enough gas when i turn it on to warm up and and it dies it turns on goes vroom vroom and then poof i have to use the gas pedal and hold it at around 2000 rpm for a minute or 2 until it will keep the rpm up and not die i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what could be wrong i just replaced the starter and battery last summer

This is most likely the IAC (Idle Air Control) sensor. This seems to be a common problem in these trucks, sometimes they can just be cleaned but most of the time it needs to be replaced. They usually run $60-$70, and whatever you do dont pay anyone to change it out. It takes about 5 minutes. I think there are three bolts holding down the cover over it (the plastic thing that says Triton V8 or whatever engine you have) and then two bolts holding down IAC. There is one set of wires that has to be unplugged but thats it. If you search for "IAC" in the forums i'm sure you'll find lots of info.
