Got a question for ya'll....
Has anyone been to any of the public ORV sites in the NGA mountains?
I found this link: http://www.n-georgia.com/ and it shows some good sites all over ga. I'm coming up on my 1st wedding anniversary, and we want to take off and do some wheelin and camping up there this spring. Growing up around Athens, we just found some field and had some fun!! Wanting to be all legal like now in my old age...
Figured just wanted to know for sure. I don't know any of places in Georgia, but there is always Tellico (never been but plan on eventually going). There is also a place just above Chattanooga on signal mountain called Prentice Cooper. I have been there several times on an ATV and have yet to cover all of their trails. most if not all of the trails are open to 4X4's, but aside from a few mud holes and steep narrow trails it is really only moderate wheeling. If you are interested I can provide more information.

Please do. We're not looking to do anything extreme. It will be our daily driver we're taking (isuzu rodeo). south Tenn ain't too far out of the way...
You can get an Accurate Maps & Atlas Georgia Mountains map for $3.95 at most gas stations above the Atlanta Metro Area. I got mine from a BP station on 365 just south of Duncan Creek Rd. Looks a little like a log cabin w/pumps. It has a ton of info. I tried Patterson Gap Rd. and unimproved unpaved mountain road above Rabun Gap and it was a trip in a long wheelbase extended cab truck, but worth every minute of the drive. The map includes camp grounds, hiking trails, and other points of interest. It covers the Smoky Mountain area of North Georgia kind of on a line above Clark, Hall, Cherokee Counties, and so forth. I had it laminated by out Engineered Wood people to preserve the map in inclement weather. Super resource, though.

Tex,
Thanx...that is pretty much the area I was looking at. I would be heading up Hwy 441 from Athens, my hometown, after dropping the kids off at my folks' house.
I'll keep both in mind. We are planning on this trip come late spring/early summer depending on when I get home from Iraq....
Mike- Lemme know when you will be in the Athens area, we gonna set you up with a picnic - eat here or take with ya.
One or two folks on the Ga. board know I don't burn all the food.
Thanks for your service.

Just let me know when this shindig is and I'll bring a few things and put a tank of gas in bulrydr_1's truck, as well as bring a new copy of the map. Hope you like Stew that's a little on the warm side. Come home safe bulrydr_1. Semper Fi.
