Hey Travlnman

Did you ever have any luck finding a hi-po coil pack for the 4.2?

Sorry Rich, no luck at all. I did however come across a complete ignition system, made by Jacobs I think, that would work, but it ain't cheap. I haven't given up, I still look from time to time, and if I find it , I'll start a new thread and let everyone know.

There is no need for a high performance ignition system on our truck unless you are pushing way past 400rwhp, and that is just a prediction. Just make sure your coil pack is in spec, you have good wires, and good plugs gapped at .032 for blower/nos, .060 NA.

Thanks Travlnman. I remembered you mentioning looking for one in a thread several months ago.

What are the specs for primary and secondary resistances? If you go by Haynes, mine is bad. So are the new parts on the shelves.

Yea, you can get a new coil pack from Oreilleys or Autozone, about a hunderd bucks.

I don't plan to use the Haynes specs, 'cause too many people have shown bad coils that were working perfectly, mine included. Just like anything else, they have to get tired after a while, or they would not sell replacement units. With 154k on my '02, I tend to be proactive in my maintenance. If I was gonna buy a replacement, I was just curious about the availability of a hi-po aftermarket unit. They are available for the COP , and the 2-four plug packs for v-8's, but no v-6.
