5.4 Cylinder heads

I have a 2001 F150 with the #3 spark plug blown out. The mechanic recommended a fix from ford. That would cost 2500. I have since found used cylinder heads for less money and the mechanic recommended changing both sides if I did this. For an additional 3 hours labor.
My question would be that since the 2003 heads fixed this problem. Would I be able to change these heads to a 2003 without any significant changes to the other motor parts? I tried to go to a link provided earlier in this forum on comcast but it was canceled.

I dont have any experience with this, but from what I have read about the problem I think I would use the Big-Sert repair on my existing heads before I replaced them with other new or used heads. If I went to the trouble of pulling the heads, I would do all eight plug holes with these steel inserts. Or, you might try repairing the the blown hole without pulling the head.

For those that looked I found a Engine rebuilder in Mpls., MN that would put in an insert similar to Timesert for $250. He says he does up to 5 per week and is even doing them for local dealers now.
