I've not seen a drop, get about 14-15mpg cruising 65-70mph, consistant 11.5-12.5 as a DD. Mine was stock with 235x85x16's, so the 315's help my gearing for economy. Mine weighs 6800 with cap and winch.

Get the 2005 3Valve V10 with the auto tranny (5R110) and 4.30:1 LS rear gears and you wil have gearing tunability with the tires to get you whatever is comfortable cruise speed and rpm with a fairly broad range of tire diameters.
The stock tires are close to 33 and a modest jump up to 35s is usually easy and not really noticable. The bounce up to 37s usualluy is large enough that air drag and tire weight starts to create some drag and cost some MPGs but really depends on driving style. Going bigger than 37s ALways costs and that is just plain physics of drag, rolling resistance and tire/wheel weight.
BTW the 35s look good in the Superduty wheel well and Ford can adjust the speedo at the computer by recalibration for not too much grief or cash.
Before you order or buy the truck do some research on available tires, sizes, ratings in 17 and 18 inch... you might be suprized to find much less options than the old days of 15 and 16 inch rims. No you can not swap 16 inch rims back to the 2005 trucks the brakes are too large now.

I have a 6" lift with the 35 x 12.5 x 16.5 bfg at. Its a 2000 f250 cc 4x4 sb with 170k mi. It gets the worse mpg now on the high way, because of wind resistance. I drive about 85 and get about 10 on the highway. Driving around a flat city trying to conserve fuel i get about 13. Driving around a hilly city, i get about 9.
