Is dealer jerking me around?

I have an 04 F150 4.6 with 5,000 miles. I took the truck in to get my hood repainted due to a small crack in the paint. They fixed this without any problems (I am hoping so because I got the truck back today and it is raining so I really can't tell). When I took it in I noticed that the outer edges of the front tires are starting to wear a little. It is not bad but you can tell there is a little wear with I thought was unusual with so low of miles. The dealer told me that the front end of the truck was aligned perfect and the camber was set right. He said you are supposed to rotate the tires every 5,000 miles. He said his 04 F150 does the exact same thing. This doesn't seem right to me because if this is the case then I better plan on buying tires a lot which is not an option I am going to take.

Have you checked your tire pressure, versus what the spec calls for? It could be spot on alignment wise, but if you arent running enough air, you will run down those tires.

I do mine every other oil change (or about 6,000). Also, I received a letter from Ford saying that they have increased my tire warranty from 12/12,000 to 3/36,000. Anyone else get the letter?

The best way to increase tire life is what has already been said, check the air pressure regularly and rotate the tires on a 5000-7000 miles interval. I usually change my tires at around 40,000 miles with about 3-4/32 of tread left and I always buy tires in the fall, nice to have new tires in the snow.

Check the sticker on the inside of your gas filler panel. It should give you the recommended psi. I am running whatever the spec calls for.
